If the network would have allowed him complete creative control, he WOULD have sat in that chair for 90 minutes.

Nah, he always dreamed of having his own special... that trolling the audience thing was him when he was frustrated at audiences just wanting him to do the same old song and dance instead of letting him do new things creatively.... like you guys boo me cause you just want the Latka voice and a few catch phrases, then I'll read an entire Shakespere novel to you.

Scary how I remember this special and it's been over 40 years since I've seen it. They must have replayed it a few times in the 80s or something as I would have been 6 when it was first broadcast. Or I have really amazing memory for my TV programs!

When you think out of the box, you realize that his entire show is goddamn brilliant. A man with a vision, 40 years ahead of his time!

One half-point I will take away from "Man on the Moon" is that, just from what it showed, I would've assumed this special was nothing but Andy playing with incomprehensibility and taking the usual opportunities to troll the audience along the way. But no, it's funny in ways that most anyone can appreciate, though Andy is very much bringing all his greatest Kaufmanisms.

Man on the Moon makes a huge diservice to Kaufman and his art!!!

The most brilliant mind in comedic art ever!! When he was talking to howdy doodie I laughed alot and cried even more. Comedy is travesty healing itself.

The Tubi commercial for the Chiefs/Eagles SB was kinda Andy like. People thought their tv channel changed and started looking for the remote.

I could be very wrong, but I think when he said 90 minutes, he was talking about the time slot being 90 minutes including ads. The ads would fill in the rest of the time.

disappointed that both the opening gag where he manipulates the vertical hold and the record player bit got cut...
@metatron19704 жыл бұрын
The vertical hold gag doesn't happen at the beginning as Man on the Moon.implies. it's more around the 36th/37th minute.

Never liked him. Sad to see anyone pass away so young though. I didn't really enjoy the Latka character on "Taxi". Still I obviously remember it.

Easily one of the worst comedians in history. But like he always told people he is a song and dance man.

I'm not sure if you're referencing how Kaufman said he wasn't a comic and "never told a joke"....but it's wild for you to say "worst comedian in history" when we live in the era where Joe Rogan and his incestuous cabal of angry highschool dropouts are dominating the comedy scene lmao
