I can never see a Johnny Carson clip without thinking, growing up with him, I never realized how talented he was, sure, I knew he was good, and fun to watch. However, with another 25 years of life to look back and review, WOW, what the world lost in the Arts when we lost him.

I USED to think that, but then I grew up and started paying attention to his monologues: THEY'RE NOT FUNNY. Some of the guests are hilarious, like Jeff Fox-worthy. His TV show was not as funny as he alone on stage was, or with the other three in the group, Bill Engvall, Larry the cable guy, and Ron White. Pay attention to the audience next time you listen to Johnny's show. Having Don Rickles on didn't help, either.

At one time I had 5 junk cars out in the field about 100 yards behind my house. My wife was bitching at me about getting rid of them and I said "but the kids will be getting their drivers licenses in a couple of years, what will they drive." They both looked up in horror because they knew it was entirely possible. Sadly, I bought them both nice used cars which they proceeded to destroy. I should have fixed up the old ones.

Oh really??? Every now and then, I watch reruns of his shows, and his monologues are the most UNfunny lines ! Without someone in the news for him to cut down, he wouldn't have a word to say ! Didn't laugh, just agreed with what he would say in those instances.

Does anyone know if the special Carson show filmed in England, where the show and network set up a very elaborate joke on Johnny. It was hysterical!! The premise was Johnny was to meet very “important” English people of the BBC to try to produce a program for British audiences. The English moguls would speak to Johnny and would say words that made no sense yet were spoken with strong upper class English diction. Johnny had no idea what they were saying to him in our shared language and his facial expressions were precious and hysterical to all of the viewers. I would love to see this episode again!!

The great thing about Carson, is he was constantly giving young comics "the big break". Leno never did that. I believe, because he knew he was a hack and current comics were so much better than he was.

great comedian and I'm glad he got a good reception but that's the most obnoxious crowd I ever heard, what's with the non-stop screaming/squealing, it's like a crack house just let out - have a little class, just laugh and applaud, god
