Comedian Jeff Foxworthy Wants You to Know....Laughter Can Heal the Conflict!
Jeff Foxworthy (Blue Collar Comedy Tour, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) REVEALS the origins of his famous "You might be a redneck if..." jokes, the shame he felt from his parents being the first divorced couple he knew, and his decision to stay away from political and religious humor where the divide is already great.
He opens up about his reservations about being asked to guest on MBB, his tech beginnings working for IBM, and why it’s more difficult to be a clean comic than dirty.
Jeff highlights the importance of living a balanced life, realizing that everyone is dealing with their own personal struggles, and why we could all stand to laugh at ourselves a little bit more.
PLUS Jeff shows off his impressive illustrating skills that most of the world doesn’t know him for.
TUNE IN to MBB to hear the full hilarious, heartfelt conversation!

A good friend of mine from college is from the area of Atlanta he’s from or lives/lived at one time…I’m not sure of the exact details of timing and place-there are about 427-ish smaller communities that run together all around that city. For the most part, they are often just referred to as “Atlanta”…*outside* of the area/city. FYI: God freaking forbid you refer to Marietta as “Atlanta” instead of it’s “Christian” name or part of “The Perimeter.” If you go there and do, you’ll get a 10-15 minute lecture on how it, and the other 426 communities, are similar and different, sometimes with a very complicated Venn Diagram, from a complete stranger at Old Navy) Anyhow, I digress, (You might be ADHD IF…) my friend says he is one of the nicest humans you’ll meet. As my friend is one of the nicest humans you’d meet, I trust his assessment of Mr. Foxworthy. (Edited due to Autocorrect hating me…and ADHD).

What a sweet man! When he talked about the love for his grandchildren, it brought me to tears because my dad only got to be a grandpa for a year and 8 months, he died at 64 and it breaks my heart so much that he doesn't get to see my nieces grow up. I appreciate him saying that laughter won't solve our problems but it's so helpful to have a relief! Another awesome podcast, Mayim and Jonathan!

I love how how your curiosity drives your questions, & even when there can be so many obvious differences between people, there are so many more things that bring them together. This is was a beautiful, wholesome, healing episode, & I appreciate how you & Jonathan are so 1) gifted & 2) willing to use those gifts in this way. Well done, good & faithful servants. ❤❤❤

It felt like a very real conversation that was insightful, introspective, honest and humble amongst all the participants. I felt like we really got a glimpse into Jeff Foxworthy, the man, not just the performer. Thank you to Mayim, Jonathan, Jeff & all the staff that made this podcast happen.

Brilliant. Jeff described me perfectly with the wavy line. I too felt different as young as seven; I couldn't understand the straight walkers either. I'd wonder why they followed blindly when the direction they were headed looked wrong or boring. I am a retired teacher and writer. I have yet to publish, but I follow the dream. I'm on my 6th book, and I won't give up. Thanks to all 3 of you and Cheers! PS Art is always worth doing no matter what form it takes. PSS When I was poor and in college, I had a TV that didn't work with another TV sitting on top. I was more a hippie, but we sometimes managed to look like red necks.

What a great time today! Jeff Foxworthy is just over a decade younger that my Dad would be, if he were still with us and I see so many similarities in his mindset to my father (and myself). Thank you, Mayim and Jonathan for giving us a glimpse of an unsung hero who has brought laughter and memes (before they were called memes) to so very many of us. I was in my mid-to-late teens when "You Could Be A Redneck If..." breezed into so many livingrooms, on greeting cards, and into the vocabulary of "everyone", so I feel blessed to have had his version of comedy for the majority of my life.

How wonderful to see his artwork and listen to this conversation. I think that comedians are really observant about people and things that you experience in life, and they are so good at drawing comparisons to describe something. I think this level of observation in the world for both comedy and visual creativity is awesome.

Absolutely! In fact my husband had a similar experience to Jeff's wife. When he was first integrating in to my family, he would take things very personally or would be so quiet because he was always in his head processing. Then one Easter my husband noticed my Dad had made no jokes or gestures to the boyfriend my sister had brought and he turned to me and whispered "oooohh, I get it. Your Dad doesn't like him. He hasn't razzed him at all". This by no means makes this family culture right, but it is how the dynamic works in our family. Now, my husband gives it right back to them all but in his kind way.

I hope you read this. At the end of the, when you were saying that Jonathan has to always release pressure, it made me think of a conversation I had with my wife. She said all men can’t help themselves, they always have to say the joke. I think it’s part of the thing we’re taught about being the backbone, the strength of the family, so we tend to bottle our emotions and it comes out as comedy. 🎭

This is such a wonderful episode. - Thank you all so much. - His church story is so important for self acceptance; and the part about if you want to have a full life, you need to have a few "hold your nose and jump" moments... That made me cry.... With age and experience, I've become afraid to jump anymore and need to rekindle "having faith" that things will be okay and maybe even great. ❤❤❤ 25:40 Read the book called "STILL RIGHT HERE," by Suzanne Geismann❤ Also Betty Eadie's book called Embraced by the Light.

We were at my Brother and SIL's golf club for dinner for a special occasion in their family and our whole family was there. My SIL had the misfortune of sitting between my brother and I. It was loud enough in this dining room that you could only hear the person next to you and no further. Finally my SIL said to me, I picked the wrong seat, you two are making me laugh so hard, I haven't even been able to take a bite of my dinner. I could not hear him and he could not hear me. We both have a very dry sense of humor passed down from our Grandparents' families, so anyone at the table could not really even see our lips moving or our facial expression change so it did not look as though we were saying anything funny. We looked serious. My SIL looked like she had a little too much wine because she was sitting between her husband (my Brother) and me (her SIL) who were not even cracking a hint of a smile. Her family is pretty serious so they had no idea what had come over her.

The first time I ever heard Jeff I was visiting my cousin in Tennessee. We were in her car and she put his cassette on and said you have got to hear this, he's one of the funniest comedians I've ever heard. Well he is hysterical, but there was one routine he did that got me worried. He was talking about how, once he started making big money, he decided to take his relatives on a vacation to Hawaii and put them up in a really nice hotel. He said how they did their laundry in the bathroom sink and hung it on the balcony railing. When it was time to leave they packed the hotel towels and the ash trays in their suitcases. Plus some other things. My big concern was, it sounded just like my family and if he kept talking I was going to find out I was related to him. One of the first family weddings I went to, late 1950's, the reception was held in VFW Hall and everythingwas fine. But one of the last family weddings, late 1960's, the reception was held at the bride's family country club. 2 of my Aunt's picked the table clean. One of them took the flower centerpiece and I swear if she could have got it in her purse she would have. They put ash trays, little decorative plates and anything that wasn't nailed down went into their humongous purses.

I love this! Clean comedy is better because the cussing and raunchy stuff is sometimes to easy and cheap

Agreed.🎉 Today I was the only female at a local firearms dealer with my husband of nearly five years now and there was a gallon-sized jug of three-digited ball powder on a shelf. So, 😂 since we are seniors now. I said Honey, would you like to powder your balls?" Just the convenience of that nasty was goofy enough for me.

I read Jeff's "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem" back in my teens and it's one of my favourite books. Really well written, funny but also heartwarming and really honest. Didn't know he wrote so many other books. Gonna go check them out now. Great interview!

Love this episode...I would love to hear Bev's take....really, really miss her and hope she is ok. No sure why she isn't on anymore, please tell her we are in awe of her badassery and personal growth. I could literally listen to her take on just about anything. Mayim could not be anymore relatable during Bevisodes...seeing you two interact with Jonathon as mediator is pure gold! PS: Both of you are truly shining in today's podcast! An amazing surprise gift on a snow day!

I love how he talked about how his kids are different and how you treat them is different. I have always said I speak Autism (all 3 are on the spectrum) each one is different so you have to do different things to explain things to them. Or how you get them to do the things you want. but Like Jeff I am blessed all 3 of mine are over 20 and still call me Mommy and enjoy spending time with me.

We grew up with Jeff on the TV. It was so fun to watch as a family and not have to cover the ears, etc... he was SO well respected and loved.. and obviously, lightyears beyond the low hanging vulgar fruit type comics... legennnddd
