Hello, I’m Bob, and as part of reading the International Booker Prize shortlist, I read this interesting book about the Korean working class across generations.
I hope you enjoy it!

Each time I see the title of that book, I’m reminded of a famous hospital in Dublin I.e. The Mater. I wonder if a similar book will be written in future about the U.K.? Particularly if it breaks up. I’m currently reading The Mars House by Natasha Pulley A future London under water and refugees on Mars.

thanks. I'm looking forward to reading this one soon. It's the only title on the short list that I bought a copy of. A couple others were available at my library, and I'll read those also when I get to the top of the waiting list.

I recently read Human Acts by Han Kang that took a much more personal approach to the demonstrations in South Korea - I presume you have read that already?

@@BobTheBookerer I read it with Ros at scallydandling as a buddy read and we both thought it was excellent - set in Gwangju and the fallout from the uprising but also deeply personal as that is Han Kang’s home city.

@@ianp9086 Oh amazing! Thank you! That’s the city I lived in for 2 years, so I’d be very keen to read that!

This has been one of my favorite read of the year and I was delighted to see it eventually listed for the prize. I describe this as a combination of The Lowland, Whale, Victory City.
