@Steve - any other suggestions?
@erin7584 жыл бұрын
@Steve - I like the idea of skeuomorphism, but Material Design isn't all about the "looks." It's a design system that sets standards on typography, color, motion, layout, and so many other things that give users FAMILIAR and USABLE user experience across apps and devices. This is beneficial because you don't have to re-learn how to interact with different apps or websites. Material Design makes things consistent. The problem is that many developers and designers don't know how to implement it correctly. Material Design has changed a lot in five years since its initial release and will continue to improve because design is a never-ending process.

What Linus left out is why we have design philosfies, having a set of rules that a user interface follows is the equivalent of the laws of physics in the real world. It helps the user understand how things work, if different cities had different laws of physics we would have learn how walk in each one, same in software, if all the apps work differently using one app coming from another can be hard.

Microsoft got it right in terms of mobile OS design. Having little screen estate available, a flat, clean, chromeless and typography-based design is best, with subtle hints of motion like transitions and letter movement. I'm sure Google put a lot of work into this, however the UI is still space inefficient, prone to clutter and based on old, large screen design principles.

I wish the colours on phones were handled in the same way that xterm handles colours, by having a specific list of colours that something is, and the user can change what actual colour they see. Anton Stengel That's not why Google came up with Material Design. That's what makes people splash some cash on a new phone, which is what Google is after. Microsoft did not invent flat design. Flat was invented by designers who wanted to simplify their work by creating a simple yet beautiful design. First concepts of flat design were hated and I am sure you hate it because it is still trendy to hate it. Well, the first conceptions were indeed bad, because they were slowing navigation. But flat design evolved and what we have now is designs like material design.

Progressive vs Interlaced - as Fast As Possible!
@SomethingRandomInc10 жыл бұрын
Interlaced is image is made of lines instead of a full image. The interlacing or combing artifacts can be seen in moving interlaced footage. Since interlaced footage is half the resolution vertically compared with progressive images it was used to lower bandwidth on old TV networks. Progressive video will always look better.

Fast as Possible Suggestion: ( but this one shouldn't be fast ) Make a video with " the anatomy of a videocard " And go over everything from GPU naming and chip naming to what memory interface, stream processors and cuda cores are and how they all work in relation to each other. I think that would be helpful for almost everyone and make them understand specs and improvements in newer generations better. That way you would have all the terminology you may encounter with GPU's in one video and you can do further research from there if you want to find out more about specific components.

I really like the UI, it's quite hard to take in at once, but honestly, it's so intuitive for the user that it's really nice for people who do make interfaces for A good OS. I dont get it... The documentation Google provide makes it look really good, i totally agree with the design philosophy and i think the principle is great. Then again, when i look at it on my phone I don't see anything outstanding about it, there are some neat animations on buttons and UI elements... however since they play so fast they are barely noticeable, and all that stuff about realtime shadows and intuitive feel were either marketing crap or are such things are implemented in a way that it is undetectable... The whole update adds very little to the phone, it doesn't feel like a 5.0 it feels like a theme and some bug fixes.
@antonstengel897410 жыл бұрын
I think the animations are very slow and noticeable. If they are too fast and you wanna get a better look you can go into developer options and slow down the animation speed

Anton Stengel Yeah, i think i broke something in the video when i was porting it to my OPO. I had set V-sync to 30fps :D. Using CyannogenMod's port though the animations are quite nice... still feels like a theme as opposed to a version increment.

You need to focus on one thing, there is no computer that can fulfil all those needs. If you want to do graphical design, I would recommend a macbook pro or an iMac. If you want to play games I would recommend a windows machine. You also want a workstation, which are very expensive and not well suited for gaming.
