Material Re-Issue's International Pop Overthrow

Material Re-Issue (Phil Angotti filling in for the late great Jim Ellison on guitar and vocals) will be playing the entire International Pop Overthrow Lp to celebrate it's reissue on CD featuring original members Ted Ansani on bass & vocals and Mike Zelenko on drums. April 23, 2011 at Chicago's Abbey Pub. This package features Material Issue LIVE AT METRO from 1987!

Seen them at the Cubby Bear in Chicago before they were signed, might of been when the scout was there. After the show the guys just walk off stage walked around the bar like no big deal, talked to everyone there. Ted came up to me and asked "so what do you think" , I told him you guys are GREAT you will be going places., "He replied you think so". Those were the days.

Hi I'm Karen Curran, 1 of Material Issues biggest fans. It started when they backed up The Replacements at the Patrillo Band Shell in Grant Park, Chicago over the 4th of July Taste of Chicago.i was totally blown away. Next it was the Metro. In fact me, Ann Marie and Bob are on the cover of their live CD. Then the China Club and so forth. Me and my friends rarely missed a live show. Jim's presents on stage was so captivating you couldn't take your eyes off him and wanted to be as close up to him as possible. In fact I seen them play at the Metro just 2 weeks before he died. I was devastated when I heard the news and wept. Ill never forget him and still have all the news paper article about his death to this day. Phil Angotti is a close and personal friend of mine and I turkey admire him for keeping their music alive to this day. Maybe I'll see you again someday. Love you, Karen, Ann & Ada.

I was at the Petrillo Band Shell show when they opened for The Replacements (their infamous last show). My good friend Bob got us VIP, front of stage in the first row. Great show. I got Jim’s blue translucent Fender guitar pick. Kept that pick framed with an 8”x10” promo photo of the band that Ellison signed for me at a local vintage guitar show. He was very melancholy at that meeting. Spoke with him a bit, and told him how cool his music was. Sad to hear of him passing, which seemed to be over a girl. Relistening, and enjoying the later albums now as well. He had such cool guitars on stage. Gretsch White Falcon, and a Rickenbacker Lightshow we’re among my faves. Hope he’s still ‘rockin’ up there!!!

International Pop Overthrow album...best of 1991...best from the 84 to 95 for alternative music...Loved those guys...would love to see tour and honor Jim

Glad to see that Mike is still rockin and carrying on! What year did I see you at The Hurricane? I think you guys and Jeff Lescher were about the most genuine touring musicians that I met there in six years?
