I have a question, if I’m due April 5th but still have vacation and paid days to use from my company, can I still use them? It’s worth 1 month and I’m planning to exhaust them all and start my maternity may 6th. Will this be an issue?

Thank you so much for your video and all the information. That’s really useful. I’m 25 weeks pregnant and planning to start my mat leave at 32 weeks, 8 weeks before due date. (Due date is June 8 and I’m 32 weeks - April 13). When and how much notice should I give my employer? (I believe they kinda expect me to work up until 39 weeks or so).

Depending on your employer, the sooner they know the better but legally you only have to give two weeks!

And then do we then count the past 52 weeks, for the eligibility of hours, from the date of application?

You can apply max 15 weeks before your due date so….. December 23rd!

Hi Annette, Thank you so much for the video. A quick question, my current due date is May 24th and I am planning on working till end of April. When is the best time to apply for Maternity leave and Paternity Leave? And does my maternity leave continues till up to 12 weeks even after I have delivered and does parental benefit continue after the 12 weeks have completed or does it overlap with maternity leave. I am planning on taking up to 12 months and it's just very confusing on how to utilize the leave available. Your response will greatly help :)

Hi! Yes you will get all of the available time. It says on the website it switches to parental after 12 weeks or after you have the baby but it’s just when you hit the 12 weeks. You’ll get an email when the rollover happens, so don’t worry you will have the most amount of time no matter when you give birth!

Great Video! But I do have a question. This is for my sister I’m speaking for. She’s wants to work to her fullest and while her body can take it. But however per say; can she obtain the maternity and parental leave at the “SAME TIME” after birth. One is 6 months and the other is 12 months. Are we able to merge it both or obtain both at the same time. I tried looking up on service Canada website can’t seem to find the answer to this

Hi! You can apply for maternity leave 17 weeks before birth or up to 3 months postpartum

@@najeemnaime452 you apply for both at the same time. If approved she’ll get 12 weeks of maternity and 45 weeks of parental when the 12 weeks is up.

Thank you for the info. If I don't take mat leave until last couple of weeks before due date , do I get more weeks of paternity leave ? I just want to work as much as i can so i can spend more time after birth with baby.

Yes I do believe it carries over past your due date as long as you apply for the maternity benefits before you have the baby!

Hi thank you for the video. I have questions I’ll be on vacation until May 13 and my last day of work will be May 16. However, my doctor told me I’ll have a early delivery on May 10 or 11. When do I applied for maternity leave and parental leave? Can I applied after my vacation is over ? I would’ve given birth to my baby then applied. Very confused

Hi! I’d suggest you apply asap. You can get both as long as you apply before your due date.

It does but I believe it’s only for new applications. I am currently under the impression that if you already started receiving that amount that you will continue to get it.

Pregnancy leave is before the baby is born, mat leave starts the day you have the baby or your due date whichever comes first

You can apply for maternity as early as 15 weeks before your due date and up to 17 weeks after leaving work!

If it’s for medical reasons you can apply at 17 weeks but you can absolutely apply at 15 weeks so worst case you won’t be applicable for two weeks
