Gotta love the gold-plated horn. Shines so bright. And well deserved in the hands of a true master.

You hardly can play funk better than this. This is grooving so hard that playing the same at the same level with a metronome will be a pain.
@damianbiondo8129 ай бұрын
Yep, he played with all the funk greats -- James Brown, George Clinton and the whole P-Funk gang, and Prince. That's funk royalty right there.

Maceo is the premier horn player. Has been since the 60's. His album, Maceo Parker is excellent. I forget what year it was released, but I have it and I listen to it constantly

He headlined the Chicago Jazz Festival one year. He was the closeout act on Sunday. He said, " I've been here for three days and saw all kinds of Jazz and so called Jazz. We ain't gonna play none of that shit." And proceeded to funkify the joint. It was MAJESTIC. Like going to a James Brown concert and listening to the backing band warm up for the Godfather. One of my favorite nights of music!!

Saw the Maceo Parker band at Sweetwater 420 fest in 2011. Was truly one of the best, most energetic shows I've witnessed. My crew was feeling this so hard, in an unbreakable funk trance.

I am a music teacher. Let me say something. Music is 2 things. technical skill, and communicating a feeling. The great ones have both in varying proportions. This song "speaks" If you can't feel it, it's not for you. Like James Brown used to say "put your hand on the box (radio) and feel this, if you've got any kind of soul you can feel it"

Huh!? Im suprised, you can get really groovy in this tune. It sets the stage for awesome and inspiring solo's that lets the audience swing. It's got a simple melody, so what- It's about the mood. Being an alto saxophonist, i can tell from experience, it's just really a delicious tune! Pass the peas like they used to say!

I'm white as you get, but I've been playing funk for 35 years. I played in a soul band when I was 16 years old. There's a relaxed groove that older players get that is difficult for younger guys. I like it when youthful adrenaline is replaced with knowledge. I'm a bass player, and as the years go by, I play less and less notes with more effect.
