People often feel that mathematics and literature are very different from each other - perhaps that math is dry number-crunching and that literature is whimsical or dramatic. Having taught mathematics for 35 years and having loved poetry longer than that, I am frequently noticing connections and resonances between these two fields. In this talk I explore some of those connections, including playfulness, patterns, power, elegance, and surprise.
