I'm just starting out on a similar venture so I really appreciate this info share! I love the x/y locking, that's a really handy feature. To throw a tip back your way, if you use the Extension (···) or Perpendicular (⟂) snapping modes you can draw lines like that interior wall easily. Cheers!

Thanks for the taking the time to put the video together. To put your mind at rest over the 1st door height, if you review the steps closely, you left in the "feet" part of the initial measurement, so your input was essentially saying "six-feet-8-inches-feet" which is pretty confusing. Hard to spot since "' looks very like ". Would probably be nicer if the interface told you it didn't understand the measurement you entered, but instead the program accepts it as "6 feet plus 8 feet" and so gave you a fourteen foot door.

Thanks this has given me a good start with arch. I have been using part design and sketcher with good result for a while. But what i cant understand with arch is just where is the window that i placed. I can see it but cant see any measurements describing location in the tree. If i move the window then the tree object describes how it moved but not its actual location. What am i missing. Thanks still working through your vids.

Thanks for video. I have to use Line or Rectangle for wall base, because I cannot modify (if I need) the vertexes of Wire. When I make double click on wire, vertexes become white, but when I try to select one of them to move it, nothing happens. I mean, I cannot change the length of single lines of wire, so I cannot change the length of a single wall. Instead, I can change the length of line or rectangle, and so the length of wall changes. Dou you know why I cannot move the vertexes of wire? I'm using FreeCAD 0.18 on Linux Mint.
@mathcodeprint4 жыл бұрын
This is my best understanding of this issue. The Draft Wire has a "Side", sort of a front and a back. You will only be able to click on the white box if you are on the correct "side." Let me try to clarify. if you set your working plane to "top" and draw a wire from the "top", you will only be able to select the white box from the "top." If you try to edit it from the bottom you will not be able to select it. I believe the grid has a physicality to it and you cant select through it. One of the ways I try to cope with this, if I cant select something, I will hide everything around it so there is no selection conflict. Hope that helps.
@paolofogaccia94554 жыл бұрын
@@mathcodeprint I hide everything, and I select Wire. It becomes green. I make double click on label Wire: the label becomes yellow; lines and vertexes becomes white; I try to select a vertex but I cannot move it. I saw also other video tutorials where it's possible modify the position of vertexes in that way.

@leviathanx08157 ай бұрын
7:11 That is likely happening because you actually typed 6' 8"' , so it probably adds 6' and 8' and ignores the ", hence why you got 14' in the end.
@parodoxis3 ай бұрын
Nah it's because when the selected the previous value, only the number gets highlighted, not the apostrophe. So he typed 6' 8"' (notice the triple tick at the end) which is not a valid value. Later on he enters the values from scratch and it works fine. He just didn't notice what was in the input box.

How do you increase the grid size and make the lines snap to the grid. My grid is 3/8ft long
@mathcodeprint3 жыл бұрын
Snapping is turned on and off from the snap toolbar in draft. The draft grid is set in Draft Preferences. To make snapping easier turn on snapping and turn off all but the one snap tool you want to use. To set grid size use main menu edit-preferences, select draft on left then look for grid settings. Note: you have to start draft workbench b4 draft preferences will be present

Your house is too small. The default grid size is way to tiny. Go to Edit->Preferences->Draft->Grid and Snapping. For ft-in measurements, I set my grid spacing to 25.4mm (one inch), main lines every 12 (foot), and grid size of 720 lines (60ft by 60ft). You'll need to hide and show the grid for it to take effect.

I apologize, I am just now seeing this. I am terrible with comments. If you want to give it a go. Try different types of wires. The wall is finicky about which wire/line/edge you use. You can use Draft Upgrade and Downgrade to change a wire.

I get where you are coming from but the talking and not describing what you are doing the how and the why makes this really unhelpful. Start with the basics, like why you clicked the hash to switch on a grid, how you orientated it, the entering of the lines you're drawing whilst talking random nonsense rather than describing what you are actually doing doesn't describe the content of your tutorial. Re hash this with why, and how it will be a great tutorial.

The basics you speak of are covered in Draft tutorials. They are not really appropriate for this video. You should likely find videos that are on basic topics instead of a more advanced topic like the Arch Workbench.

Don't discount the value of the video, come back to it after you have spent time with Draft. FreeCAD is not like SweetHome3d, it is for more serious and detailed work.
