I remember when I learned proof by induction. I hated it so much, and division was the worst. Now I can do it, but I still watch to see how he teaches my second least favourite topic. (Second only to vectors)

So you're telling me that in Australia kids are studying this at school, while here in Argentina I had to study this in my first year of university..

In the UAE too. I took it in grade 10.

I'm from Australia and I did NOT study mathematical induction in high school. Like you I only studied it in my first year of univeristy. I think the school Eddie teaches at has a strong STEM focus, so they probably have more funding to teach this stuff.

@@ScantaniouslyCombust In NSW we do induction in advanced, ext1 and some more advanced induction in ext 2 maths

The way we learned in school is that in this type of exercises the first term is for n=0, 5^0+3=1+3=4 which is divisible by 4.

Please do linear algebra. KZbin as a whole can benefit from you teaching that to students across the world.

"pronumeral" ... instead of "variable" ... never heard that before. Vocab + math class!

What I did after was multiply everything by 5 then subtract 12 from both sides and then can express RHS as multiple of 4 to show true for n = k + 1

Why not use N+, if we're only interested in positive whole numbers?
@pronounjow6 жыл бұрын
Whizzer191 N+ only explicitly excludes 0, whereas Z+ explicitly excludes 0 and negative numbers, and still without including anything beyond the integers. It's better to be as thorough as you can to get rid of logical ambiguity.
@_inabox6 жыл бұрын
Do we have to also specify that k belongs to Z+ ?
@aserillll6 жыл бұрын
Błażej Lewandowski You assume that k takes the value of n so you don't have to say it again, n is already some positive integer and k is that value again.
@jffry1026 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. The first statement that it is true for the positive integer n already specifies it. When k would be a number outside of that, the first statement wouldn't apply, and therefore be false anyway.

Part 2 is already up and he says he forgot to write that

It makes it more clear, yes. But I don't think it's technically required.

FahimTheStrategist Its the same process just maybe longer in some parts. The essentials of induction are to establish a base case first, then an inductive hypothesis, then prove for k+1
