Gumball trying to make Alan angry is pretty easy to understand: Alan is the goody two shoes of the show. He is so nice that if he ends up losing faith in the world, everything descends into chaos. Gumball simply can't stand how nice Alan is and simply tries to find a way to push him out the edge. About the murder attempt... Well, you just need to watch the episode and you will get it why Gumball was trying to kill Alan.

Because I’m so nice, I’ll tell you what happened to the flower. He started showing signs of some sort of sickness when his face started getting scary and dry (hence the scary appearance). Darwin and Gumball were trying to help him, reading about possible cases of the illness, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually they read something about taking care of flowers, that sometimes they can start wilting and to fix that you need to cut the head ( I don’t remember what it’s called). So they tried to do so, Lesley of course got scared, but they succeeded at the end and he did get better. The situation does seem very horrifying an first, but then you remember that Lesley has a flower anatomy and his body is most likely okay with the process, plus it was the right way to heal him in the end. I would have freaked out too though
