Wow the nostalgia. I remember every Friday and Saturday at 9pm-12:00am switching back and forth from kiss fm to BLS to hear rap music.

Beautiful times as a teenager as a Hip Hop junkie in 1986 in NYC. I would switch from station to station to see who was dissing who!!!! Who was saying what!!!!! The Bronx vs Queens, Red Alert and Boogie Down Productions vs Mr. magic and Marley Marl. 98.7 kiss FM vs 107.5 WBLS. Classic and legendary. Lots of fun and great Hip Hop.

Much appreciation to this podcast for highlighting the positive aspect of our history as opposed to persuing the negativity for views and business. Putting this show above the others. #Respect!

What an incredible time in music. I couldn't wait for Fri and Sat to come so I could hear these DJ's cut and scratch and mix the freshest beats and rhymes. There was a college station ( I think it was called WBLI) that was super hard to get cause the signal was weak but they would come out with some ill shit. I wish I had digitized my tapes. I met Red at Danceteria one time. He was sitting solo at the bar having a drink. I talked with him for a while. He is a super cool brother.

Great information famz & I definitely remember WBLI! WBLI (106.1 FM) is a commercial radio station owned by Cox Radio and licensed to Patchogue, New York. It airs a top 40 (CHR) radio format. The station mainly serves Suffolk County, New York on Long Island. Its studios and offices are located on Sunrise Highway (NY 27) in West Babylon, New York. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WBLI

I'm guessing the disagreement between Red and Chuck was how Chuck was accepting paylola at his show and Red wasn't doing that. Looks like Funk Flex leaned how to accept paylola from Chuck.
