Once Shine mentioned the monthly payment plan it was a red flag by to me. Like he said he was the only one I heard of with a deal structured like that in battle rap. Maybe he didn’t trust himself and thought he’d blow through it so he told them to give him a lump sum up front then pay the rest in increments which is smart on his part. The disconnect is once he started to win these battles they knew he was going to up his price so they told him some of those battles didn’t fully count. Basically, if they gave him $60k for Daylyt. Daylyt no shows so they had him battle Real Sihk. They told him that Real Sihk battle wasn’t worth $60k on his part so he had to do yet another battle to make up for the 60k. They tried to say he owed them extra battles to make up that money they paid him.

Hard to say if the entire contract is invalid without seeing it or just enforcement of the exclusivity clause if all Shine has left is to battle Daylyt and they’re unable to line up the battle. Other URLContracts, like what Eazy signed saying 5 or 7 years exclusivity with no mention of $$/number of battles is absurdly unenforceable.

What makes you say that the Eazy contract is "absurdly unenforceable"? A judge could decide how much money the URL lost out on by not having Eazy on the "roster" so to speak. Assuming the URL sues Eazy after the time limit of the contract expires, a judge could count how many battles Eazy had off the URL and compute how much the URL would have earned had he been on their cards instead. URL would have to open up their books to show how much Eazy made them in the past to help guide the judge on arriving at an amount, or could just let the judge decide.

@@acpjr contracts have to list out consideration on the part of both parties. What are they promising to each other? Eazy is promising exclusivity to URL’s platform. What Eazy getting from URL in exchange? Doesn’t say $ per battle, or number of battles promised or anything specific. Contract is incomplete, not worth the paper it’s written on.

@@hippipdip All the obligations go together. The URL agreed to pay Eazy X number of dollars, which they did. In exchange for payment, Eazy agreed to perform Y number of times AND AND AND agreed to be exclusive to the URL platform (with exemptions) for Z number of years. So just because he satisfied one requirement that means he's not obligated to satisfy the other one?

@@acpjr my understanding was the initial contract said X years exclusive, no mention of payment or how many times he’d be be booked, those details to be negotiated at a future date as they went along. This is the standard new artist exclusivity contract they throw at people. It’s what A Ward turned down. Subsequent agreements for specific performances constitute a valid contract for those events, but it has no bearing on the initial agreement. What if they never booked him, is he obligated to sit for X years? If I’m wrong on the details, then I stand corrected.

@@hippipdip I recall from one of Eazy's lives that the contract stated payment per battle on the URL's end and battle requirements plus exclusivity for a fixed time period on Eazy's end. In order to battle elsewhere, Eazy would have to notify URL in writing and the URL could approve or disapprove (according to a statement release by URL lawyers). Eazy has never claimed the URL owes him money, but he has said that he owes them time. My original response was simply to illustrate how a judge could use fuzzy math to award the damages to URL due to a breach by Eazy for violating the time commitment (since you felt the contract was unenforceable).
