Corrections: - the CIPA rating for the E-M1 III is 7.0Ev (IBIS only) and not 6.5Ev as stated in the video - the crop with digital stabilisation on the Olympus is 1.19x, not 1.9x! Sorry for the oversight!
@roman.keller4 жыл бұрын
lol, and i thought 1.9x must be an error - it's too much Canon cripple hammer specific, not alike the greek gods of power!
@stuartnelson32024 жыл бұрын
I was thinking while watching it can't be 1.9 as that's quite significant! Also, while we're being anal I think the wording was slightly inaccurate saying "6.5 times" when 6.5 stops is actually 2^6.5=90.5 times. Or rather 128 times, as it's actually 7 stops like you say.

You should have added Sony a6600 here to show how bad an ibis can be! Both Fuji and Olym did pretty well. In my opinion EM1 MK2 is good enough for handheld video shooting, with a f1.4 or bigger aperture lens at 14mm or wider.

I just started watching this and I love the XT4 but if it's IBIS then this is an unfair test LMAO. EM1 mark iii is just the best IBIS ever, it's almost a cheat code. But Fuji XT4 had the best IBIS for APS-C relative to body size

Hi Mathieu, another excellent mirrorless comparison! I believe Robin Wong mentioned that CIPA image stabilization ratings only measure pitch and yaw, but not X axis (horizontal), Y axis (vertical) or roll. I think this is in large part due to image stabilized lenses, which can only compensate for pitch and yaw. This also probably explains some of the differences observed between these two cameras ability to stabilize their digital sensors, even though their CIPA ratings are similar. Also, one discrepancy I have found in your comparison is that you state the Olympus E-M1 Mark III has an IBIS CIPA rating of 6.5 but on the Olympus website it states that it has an IBIS CIPA rating of 7.0 and up to 7.5 with sync IS. I am looking forward to your AF test for these two cameras, hopefully in the near future :)
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons4 жыл бұрын
Oops you're right, not sure why I was thinking of 6.5Ev. I should have double checked but I was convinced there was a 1 stop difference between IBIS and Sync IS. If CIPA only measures pitch and yaw, then their rating should be much lower. I guess they do an estimate.

Fuji is nice, but stabilization is "really ok for filming handheld" only when IBIS works together with OIS. Without OIS it still allow too shaky moments, that will be pain in post, because you will have to cut them out or live with terrible warp behaviour and crop. Unfortunatelly, there are only a couple of lenses (zooms, dark, heavier than small/light m4/3 primes) that offer ois for XF. So, in my case, when talking about "only handheld, only about-pocket-size", fuji is still not the way to go, even being fuji user from first x-100 and there on.

Great test Mathieu. Does X-H1 exhibit the same micro jitter thing as X-T4 in static shots ? I wonder if it is something Fuji will correct via firmware or is it issue that is there since X-H1 already and they can't figure it out. Also maybe you know if competitors such as A7III or Z6 have this issue ?
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons4 жыл бұрын
I still have some footage recorded with the X-H1 so I went back and had a quick look and there is a bit of jittering there as well. I'm not sure if it can be corrected via firmware, but Fuji did improve a few things on the X-H1 via firmware so perhaps it is possible. I've seen jittering on Sony cameras too, although the mark III generation is better now. As for the Z6, not that I can remember but I should double check.

Great review, Fuji have just updated their firmware for selected lenses for use with internal IS systems - do you have any plans to check if these updates are worthwhile and make any improvements ?
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, I need to re-rent the gear. The firmware updates are for select OIS lenses only and in my video, the only lens to re-test would be the 18-55mm. But the thing is, Fuji could release another firmware later on that improves other things, perhaps IBIS all together regardless of the lens used (they did the same for the X-H1 back then if I'm not mistaken). So it might be worth waiting for more substantial improvements rather than chasing every single firmware update (especially when Fujifilm is not bothered to give a better explanation than "Fix of minor bugs.").

@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem to move when the IBIS is off but I know for example that filmmakers don't like IBIS for camera car shots because of the micro vibrations of the car that can affect the sensor (one of the reason why Panasonic didn't include IBIS on the GH5S). So for specific applications I can see the X-T3 being the better option.
@raspas994 жыл бұрын
@@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons thank you for the quick reply. I checked better this morning and I can't see any distinguishable movement, but it's hard to notice anything small. I think for specific shots like a camera car, you're safer with an X-T3. While the IBIS can be perfectly still when turned off for various applications, I'm not sure it can't be immune to small but intense vibrations such as the ones caused by the body of a car running on the road. I guess the ultimate test would be to use the two cameras side by side for a shot like that, but I don't have the equipment.

A thorough review which is so refreshing after watching, and unfortunately believing, some of the rubbish that is available on KZbin. For example one reviewer, who may have a caffeine craving, opined that the Leica 200mm f2.8 with 1.4x teleconverter virtually matched the quality of the Olympus 300mm f4. After purchasing the former I was disappointed by the performance at 280mm, and it was not until I compared the two side by side that I realised how inaccurate that statement was. So, while accepting that this video is not the most exciting to watch, I really appreciate the care taken to demonstrate the tests.
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons4 жыл бұрын
I used the Leica 200mm 2.8 in Scotland and I have to say, I was quite impressed by it, and the stabilisation with the G9 worked really well. I made this video which was all shot hand-held: kzbin.info/www/bejne/norVkoubhc2qo6c
@onthemove3014 жыл бұрын
@@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons At 200mm I think the Leica quality excellent on the G9, especially the stabilisation which is rock solid in my seventy year old hands. However, with a sunny day and not much else to do and using a Spyder LensCal as a subject, I've concluded from a re-test that my original comment is a little harsh. Resolution on the Leica 200mm with 1.4x teleconverter at the High Resolution setting on the G9 has about the same performance as the Olympus 300mm at the normal (not High Resolution) setting on the same camera. Of course, in the field to photograph birds, the Olympus is the clear winner since birds are not often going to stay in the same place for sufficient time to take a HiRes image.
