Just a nitpick. Human hearing percieves loudness on a logarithmic scale. In order to be twice as loud, you would need 10 people, not 2. I feels like like this would limit the usefulness of the "run for your life" alarm

Depending on the technology, in this case the drum shell and drum head, there is an exponential increase in volume. And then there are huge resonators like the village pagoda structure and the use of geological formations such as a grotto. Your comment about the exponential nature of hearing perception is appreciated but an equally insightful understanding of the dynamics of the instruments is needed. Either way, the point that we make sounds together, with increasing complexity and intensity, of instrumentation is clear.

It caught my attention too when he said that. But knowing that he obtained an B.S. degree in maths & physics at Yale, and originally pursued PhD in physics before releasing his first album, I assume he was aware of that but he just went loose here.

I would like to go with the Occam's razor and posit that since we are expressions of vibrations (string theory), we also have the desire to express through vibrations. Simple as that.

Our body itself it built for decoding and emitting vibrations of various kinds (senses), albeit in a narrow band. With music you just get to explore some deeper aspects of vibration like resonance, etc. But at its core they are just vibrations nevertheless.

Your suggestion assumes the validity of string theory which currently would appear to be on about as firm a footing as theories involving a deity. Also the first time I've heard anyone claim that string theory is a simple explanation for anything.
