I am in my mid 30s, trying to go back to college for nursing and I have to upgrade both math and chemistry in order to apply for the program. I have been doing review beforehand because they aren't my strong subjects. You have been my teacher in both subjects, I like the way you explain things! Thank you
@14Anon22 ай бұрын
Good luck! Although I am of the belief that nursing does not need a college degree and would be better going back to the apprenticeship system that was used until the last few decades - of course, there isn't as much money to be made from students that way...

Best math videos. Thank you. It is fascinating how the process of dividing by 2 and squaring makes the equation workable regardless of values that are not factorable.

Wow is all I can say. Great lesson. Thank you so much. My brain has been in melt down over x^ + (x+1)^ = 25. I got it down to x^ + x = 12, but that is as far as I could go. I followed along w/paper & pen, each step. Starting at 10:15 - 15:25. My answers are 3 or 4. 3 solves for my x Yes, it's the old 3,4,5 triangle.

Completing The Square makes a lot more sense when it's done with an area model. You're a good teacher, though.
@eric47098 сағат бұрын
Absolutely. Just draw a square of side length "x" Now draw on one side of the square a rectangle of length x and width "b" You now have a new rectangular shape that has an area of x^2 +bx with sides of length x , and x+b This total area represents the "c" part of the quadratic equation Now ... instead of just adding the b*x rectangle to ONE side of the square... if we cut the b * x rectangle into two equal slices of width b/2... and add one slice to each side of the square.. we now have what ALMOST looks like a NEW square of sides x+(b/2) ..... ... but.... there is a small square of sides b/2 missing where the two rectangles meet. IF we could "add" this missing piece... we ... would... COMPLETE this NEW square !!! ( sounds familiar?? - completing the square? And the famous quote... add half the coefficient of x squared now makes sense??) So add it ! ( and to maintain equality.. add it to both sides of the original equation If you draw this out.. - you will see al this quite easily. Now.. it becomes clear to see WHY one takes the coefficient of x ( ie - b) divide it by 2.. and then square it!! So the original equation x^2 + bx +c = 0 becomes: x^2 +bx +(b/2)^2 = -c + (b/2)^2 And we already know the left hand side is now a perfect square of sides x and b/2 .. So rewrite LHS as (x+ b/2)^2! Sounds complicated trying to write it out in words... but very simple to see if you draw it !
