But the Malay Melaka empire also had more guns and ships. They did not manage to subdue the Melaka empire on their own. They used corrupted Melaka leaders to infiltrate the empire. Plus, the Sultanate was at their lowest peak due to corruption, instability and etc. The Portuguese took advantage of that. Similar with the English. They came at a time where the people are not united and less educated. In short, it's not about the technology. It's more complex than that. When the Portuguese first attacked Melaka, they confiscated thousands of guns and shipped them to their port in India or Africa if i'm not mistaken.
