Came back to this one again. Man, that "Aquarium in Deep Space" gets me every time.

Pete Brown I was amazed to recognize that sound as “Multi I” in my Ensoniq EPS sample library. Seems like it was sampled from the Matrix 12.
@ManoOne-Music-Production Жыл бұрын
I wonder which preset it is… since it showed up as a sampled preset on the Ensoniq later on…

I love the Matrix-12. I had one in the late 80's and it never ceased to amaze me. I traded it in on a Korg 01/Wfd. I don't know what I was thinking. I have regreted that all these years. There is not another keyboard that can touch the Matrix-12 except maybe the SEM 8-voice. Great video!

The sound and theme of Aquarium in Deep Space is bigger than you even imagine. If it had appeared in the right context, it could have been as iconic as the greatest themes in film, as great as the greats, like Chinatown or Blade Runner, or any of them. It says so much in the short time it develops, so much truth and caracter and soul, that it can't be regarded as anything less that any of the others, and the only thing keeping it from riding that same wave is simply context. Just know that it is apprecated at its true value. Thank you for creating it.

Gotta agree. Incredible sound - abolutely amazing. The first thing it reminded me of was "The Big Blue"...

I have played, owned and tried out (at friends' places) various synths over the years. Of all (semi-) analogue synths, the ones that have impressed me most by their sheer sound, are the Matrix 12 and the P.P.G. Wave 2.0 (the oldest iteration, 4 voices only with analogue filters). Both were exceptionally beautifully sounding. Matrix 12 was hard to program, but certain sounds were beyond beautiful, and while VSTs can make to sound similar on the surface, they invariably lack depth and physical presence. Mostly charm also... Look how a relatively simple 4- voice like the new Korg Minilogue delights synth guys all over the world. It takes a modest analogue to make the most sophisticated VSTs pale in comparision... At least in my experience (since 1993).

Synth programming is a strange and fascinating activity. So many options, really is art and science to it. I programmed lots on an 01/WFD for many hours, still only scratched the surface.

Ha, NOW i see the small print "FX: Eventide H3000". Now, I'm not saying the Matrix 12 isn't amazing (it certainly is) but anybody judging the synth from this vid alone needs to realize they are really hearing a Matrix 12 PLUS the greatest FX box ever created. In other words, in no way the same as a Matrix by itself.
@blkbird8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Arthur Holloway Thanks for that
@mariusleicht8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Arthur Holloway Second that. I've got an H3000 and it really makes every synth shine. The live engineer of my band also stated "I know the sounds of your Prophet 5 very well, but with that H3000 it's a whole different story"
@adam8727 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's probably my favourite piece of signal processing gear ever. It still sounds amazing after all these years.
@jamesmeeker69337 жыл бұрын
I'd argue the Lexicon 224 or 480L is probably more flattering for synthesizers. Or a Lexicon PCM 70. Not tearing down the H3000, which I also love, but there are plenty of high end effects units that can make synths shine. AMS RMX 16 or a Quantec for example.

Wonderful sounds! :) My all time unreachable favorite. Always wanted to have this kind of great sounds. Now i can have many of them from my Zebra, the nearest match in softsynth world. Diva could get closer about the sounds with the new filter emulation, but i prefer Zebra with so many open possibilities.

No VST will ever compete with a real Matrix 12 but then the VST will not overheat and breakdown continuously. This is my experience. It is a true King of Analogues though.

Synthesisers are still not given the respect they rightly deserve. A well programmed and played synth has such power.
@Coneman32 жыл бұрын
Yes because guitars and acoustic instruments are given more respect and prominence. The number of synth artists is not that many compared to others.
@Coneman32 жыл бұрын
Synths are used a lot but usually in a supporting role to guitar/vocals/drums/acoustic instruments. Rarely are they a key instrument in a piece.
