I am pretty much a beginner. I am confused about F4. You dragged after selecting the line. Then F4 it around. You pressed F4????? Please explain?

F4 is the center of the world . It is 0 in the X, Y and Z direction. Many times to make sure yo maintain an even cut or you want to keep something symmetric even on all sides you will place it at F4. Starting a curve at F4 allows you to mirror or rotate items evenly in all directions.

Wow, thanks for responding!!!!!!!!! I got it. I also couldn't do the same as you did: the rectangle is only on one side for me.... I am stuck there. I do >curves>line >solid>extrude planar curve>straight I see a rectangle not a solid form as you have. and its only on one side. I think I understand alot and will be up and running once I get over the basic obstacles.@@donsjewelrymakingandjapantrave Thank You

I hope you check out the curve's videos and other command videos. You will learn the very basics from them and those will help you know more about how to go about completing your designs more easily in my opinion. The command line options are a great asset to understanding.
