I saw that on you photo on bottom pool… by all accounts, the lower numbered Preston models are a little stiffer than the the 90’s 👍🏻 BB

That surprised me alot, expected it to be alot better than the xs90, I did think the map 101 would be the best, but I think as you said there will be a twist, We will see Love these type of videos.. Cant wait for the map one.

Hi Bird, I’ve got the MTX3 and find it quite heavy so am thinking of upgrading to the 4 but the old version not the V2. What’s your thoughts on the weight etc 👍🏻

Hi 👋🏻, the MTX4 v1 is lighter than the 3 v1, and is more fishable at 16m, if you have the option to do it and can afford it, personally, I’d do it 👍🏻 BB

Have the 1001 myself looking forward to review my mate has just changes from the air z pro to the 1001 and gas not looked back. Hope you and yours are safe and well mucker, but to be honest I don't think there is much between the top end poles nowadays just comes down to personal preference.

Having not seen one before that looked a very impressive pole at length. If this pole is anything to go by then the new MTX5 V2 looks as if it could be something special. Would be interesting if you could get hold of and test some other flagship poles 👍

MTX3 with a short 3 section is just as stiff as an MTX4 and is naturally lighter. If you want to beef up the MTX3. Buy the MTX Margin 8.7metre and use the top kits and the beefier No3 section, and fit them on your MTX3. You get 3 power 2 kits with the MTX margin Pole and all the sections fit the MTX3, so you have spares on the bank. Buying both the MTX3 and MTX margin Poles is still cheaper than an MTX4.

Well, that certainly is a cunning plan... the issue I have with the MTX3 is it's weight at 16m. It's a fantastic pole at 14.5m, but it's that last 1.5m that ruin the whole pole! I hear you Baldrick with your margin pole theory, but you get power top 2 kits with the MTX3 anyway, along with the smaller bore match 2 kits. I hear your theory on the beefier No3 section too, but I believe the MTX Margin has the same Section 3 as the MTX Power and the MTX1... I would be a little worried about my number 4 section in losing the continuity through carbons. In all honesty, the short number 3 does the job brilliantly to stiffen everything up, until you put the 16m section on. Great comment 👍 BB

@@FirstTimeFishing Yes i agree. The standard MTX3 @ 16 metres there is a compromise. However I always use the short No3 section @ 16 metres. It keeps it manageable. Not great but manageable. Lets face it. How many times do you actually fish @ 16 metres? We don't hardly get those calm days with no wind anyway. Slightest breeze and any Pole at that length becomes very difficult and tiresome. Not to mention the bad back after 5 hours. Not all of us can shell out for these top end Poles, and we now find increasingly, that many fisheries are imposing Pole limits. I think this is a good thing, as it stops cut throat anglers with fat wallets gaining an advantage. Anglers with more money to spend, can fish areas of water that other anglers can't. That needs to be stopped. It moves away from the skill of an angler, over to who has the most money to spend. That is not an even playing field. I fully support Pole limits. Regarding the top kits. I think you may be a bit confused here. The top kits that come with the MTX3 are not the same as with the MTX margin. You get match 1 kits and power 1 kits with the MTX3. You get much beefier power 2 kits with the MTX margin. When the MTX3 was launched. There were a glut of anglers busting their No3 section. However, I think that many of these issues were caused by over rating the elastics and terminal tackle. It's a match Pole, not an all out Carp Pole after all. I bought the MTX3 and the margin Pole, so i have a choice of 3 different top kits cos they all fit. If I use the beefier top kits, I always switch the No3 section that came with the margin Pole. This configuration changes your match Pole into an all out Carp Pole. It really is very strong. It's interesting that Matrix replaced under warranty many busted No3 sections with the heavier No3 section. That's quite telling. The new V2 version of the MTX3 and the MTX4 are heavier Poles than the V1 versions. Obviously, Matrix didn't want the same issue again and have beefed up some of the sections at the expense of more weight.
