Damn that MTX5 looks awesome! Surprised it didn't come in the hardcase for that extra touch Are the EVA bungs and nose cones going to be available to retro-fit to the precious MTX poles? I would love them on my trusty amazing MTX2

I’ve got the MTX3 (old version) and it’s amazing. They are selling for £975 for a full commercial package with 7 top kits. Why pay more for the new version? I really doubt the extra money is worth it.

You will find out after you have used the pole a few times. All is great for a while. Then the breakages start. I have had my MTX3 for 18 months. It's been great but all of a sudden I started getting sections and top kits breaking. No reason for it, as I am still using the same elastics and end tackle. No 3 section shattered mid section whilst playing a mid size Carp. No replacements available so I am now using a short No3 until I can find one. Looks like it is common for the No3 section to break as there are none anywhere. Then my No 4 broke mid section whilst cupping in. Once again, I can't find a replacement. I managed to find a No4 from an MTX2 pole, so I bought that. Its a stronger section, so it shouldn't go again. Since then, 2 of the 3 supplied power ultra 1 top kits have broken. One of them broke in 2 places. This pole seemed a good buy at the time, but when you factor in the cost of replacing the sections. It is not a good buy at all. Now we know why Matrix changed the whole range of their poles and made them all heavier. It seems over time the carbon strength in the V1 versions is degrading and getting weaker.

@@magpies77 Those Shimano's are an oldy ,but a goody. I sold my Shimano beastmaster AX16 pole and used the money to buy an MTX3. The difference is chalk and cheese. That being said the MTX3 is not a comfortable pole at 16metres. I tried a bump bar but it is difficult to use at that length. @14.5 metres it is decent. Fitting a short 3 section changes the pole completely.

Weight is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to balance when describing a pole. Weight is used to describe the total weight of the pole when packed away, and is not related to how the pole "feels" (balances) when the sections are put together at any length. Beefing up the sections does add weight, but it improves performance, "feel", and balance at longer lengths.

@@baldrickscunningplan6154 Forgot to say.....good job collating the info. It'll definitely help a lot of people out. Just hope they don't confuse weight and balance. MTX4 V2 looks to be trying to muscle in on the Preston Superium 70 in that price bracket.

The extra weight factors in nose cones, EVA bungs in mini extensions and the 8.7 up to the MTX 2 also have the 1k carbon weave now on all sections which makes them stronger and wear less

Same as other manufacturers only true length with extension fitted. So it's NOT a 16metre pole. We the angler have been conned for too long. An extension is something that makes something longer than it should be. The weight of the sections ie 16 metre doesn't take the pole to 16 metres you have to fit extension therefore irrelevant
