Hello Neil, Not long ago I purchased a Ryoji Matsuoka M50 after watching your channel. It was a beautiful instrument asthetically and in voice. I also own a Swedish Goya guitar. One day I had a visitor who was an excellent musician. He wanted to play classical Spanish music on my guitars. First he chose the Ryoji Matsuoka M50. He made it sound incredible. Next he picked up my Swedish Goya and to both our surprise it sounded much more beautiful than the Ryoji M50 when playing the same piece. We were both flabbergasted at this surprise. But undoubtedly the Goya was the better instrument. I sold the M50 but kept the Goya. Interestingly, I do not play guitar. I am a pianist. I only have the guitars because I love the instruments and thought I might play them someday. But I am 70 now so its a bit late for me. I plan to keep the Goya and also retain two very nice Yamaha guitars. Thanks for your videos. I always enjoy them. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

The M50 has deeper and smoother sound. The GC5M has brighter sound, the volume is a little louder and the sustain is a little longer. So it's depend on the taste of the player. Both are good guitars.

Hi Neil, I have just purchased a Ryoji Matsouka AM 563, placed new high tention strings on the guitar. Wow! amazing sound, and I love the low action on the board. would you be able to give me some history on this model. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Congratulations, it was an export model, most of them came with cedar top and rosewood back and sides. If it’s been kept in good conditions it would have a big sound. There’s a serial number stamped on the inside of neck block of the guitar. I’d be able to give you more information based on the serial number. Best wishes.

Hi Neil - thanks for another wonderful video and expanding our know how of the classical guitar world. What strings are you using on matsuoka m50 and Yamaha gc5 … curious

I like the M50 slightly over the Yamaha. The M50 is Rich and warmer than the bright Yamaha.

Thanks Charles. You have good ears. You must have been playing the guitar for a very long time.

You mention about tuning the guitar top across your videos. How do you do it? Do you detach the top? do you trim / shave the wood top or bracing?
@NeilTaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Yes Anton, all of the above plus plenty of alcohol. Sober people wouldn’t attempt to perform such task ;)

@@NeilTaMusic Hahaha. Appreciate the response. I also learned a lot from your videos so, thank you. I am definitely considering getting my next classical guitar from you after saving up, probably a Yamaha GC or Matsuoka, hopefully on the near future.

I think the Ryoji MATSUOKA M50 sounded much better than the Yamaha GC. I am glad because I just purchased a vintage MATSUOKA M50 from Japan 3 days ago. I am anxious for it's arrival. I just listened to the new Yamaha GC82 on KZbin and while fantastically beautiful in sound and aesthetics my wife and I both concur that the M50 is pretty close for thousands less $$$$!

Yes Charles, my personal guitar is a M50 1983. I have every single model in the Matsuoka collection. I also have the No.1 and the No.100 but the M50 is so wonderful. Actually I still have five M50. I will made a video comparison of them all before they get sold. Please keep in touch and let me know when you get your guitar. My latest video show how to maintain a classical guitar, you may know it already, anyhow have a wonderful day.

@@NeilTaMusic Hi Neil I was looking for a demo for the MR series from the Matsuoka stable. Have you ever tried MR80/100/150 from the Matsuokas? Thanks.
@NeilTaMusic Жыл бұрын
@@kolakkar yes I had the entire collection. They all depend on the production year. I have done a video for the 100 and the 80 if I remember correctly. Will do others when I have time. The newer version are made in China and they don’t stack up to the vintage versions.

which is better Matsuoka M50 or M30?
@NeilTaMusic Жыл бұрын
It depends on the production year. Normally, older guitars have a higher value compared to more recent guitars due to factors such as inflation, material availability and labour cost. It also depends on the condition of the instrument.

Matsuoka is much better guitar.

I dont think Yamaha GC-5M all solid(included Back and sides)?
@NeilTaMusic2 жыл бұрын
It is all solid. Back and sides. After 1977 back and sides are laminate. This is due to rising cost and inflation. You have to check the manufacturing date, specifications are different depending on the year of production.
@paulw71962 жыл бұрын
@@NeilTaMusic I have GC-5M, 1974 there are only back and top are solid and sides are laminated. So version 5M, 1977 Ya can make more expensive than 5M, 1974?
@NeilTaMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@paulw7196 it depends. The 1974 is supposed to be higher grade than the 1977, who’s the luthier on you guitar label?
