Our guest this week is JJ Redick's former teammate and close friend Matt Barnes (ESPN / All The Smoke). Topics include: his transition from playing NBA basketball to hosting All The Smoke and other media gigs, why he wanted to get into media, debunking the rumor that he didn't want his Golden State Warriors championship ring, the difference between The Warriors and The Lob City Los Angeles Clippers, being recruiting to The Los Angeles Lakers by Kobe Bryant, wanting to fight Kobe, what he thought when The Lakers traded for Chris Paul, the importance of veteran leadership in today's NBA, The 'We Believe' Lakers, Chris Paul being an acquired taste, and one of the wildest NBA cards story ever that resulted in Matt Barnes almost breaking the window of a plane. It's a good one, folks.
Subscribe to The Old Man and The Three podcast w/ JJ Redick (ESPN / First Take) and Tommy Alter on Apple, Spotify and our KZbin channel.

We cared so much about the We Believe team so much because Oakland had such a crazy run of irrelevant teams at the time. Crowds showed up but the teams didn't. Having the underdog Warriors finally in the playoffs AND upsetting the number 1 seed made it legendary for Oakland

I feel that load management really started becoming a thing with Coach Pop and the Spurs doing it towards the end of their Big Three era, and then with Kawhi. Lebron load managed a bit. But after Kawhi won his ring while still load managing with the Raptors, I feel like it became more accepted around the league.

Hey JJ and whoever is responsible for the logistics of this awesome show. You should definitely do the whole section/naming the sections thing for all your videos like you did for the Dray video. Personally I'm really interested in this show but don't have the time - luxury to watch the whole thing. BUT I would watch subsections that are more to my interest if I know whats in there. I know the clips are kind of serving the same purpose but for a show of this caliber - you should provide this service for your fans.Get your producer on it! Continue your great work, it's really refreshing to have the perspective of an ex player who asks the kind of well thought out questions JJ and Tommy do.
