Neoliberalism would have happened regardless because of the universal political consequences of full employment that Michał Kalecki predicted in the 1940’s. Gabriel Winant showed how the seeds of neoliberalism existed in the new deal era in his book the Next Shift. I think the big question is whether it would have been Regan or Carter who ramped it up, and how it’s likely the new right would have been extremely different as Nixon floundered in south east Asia. Fun to think about regardless.

Bay of Pigs was supposed to happen in Trinidad (The Cuban city not the island) and Kennedy changed the site to the Bay, would it have been successful without his changes? Also Khrushchev considered a hypothetical Cuba invasion as reciprocal of the 1956 Hungary invasion and wouldn't have made a fuss over it
