Matt Damon discusses new documentary about U2's work in Bosnia

People have no idea how epic Sarajevo was in those days and how cynical and ruthless the siege was. They did not lose their humanity and they still refuse to succumb to hatred.

People know very well what was going on in those days. The siege is a consequence. The reason is hundreds of millions of dollars, with the approval of the US Congress, directed in the second half of the 80s to numerous ethnic NGOs in Yugoslavia to incite ethnic hatred. The neoconservatives brazenly and cynically set the people of Yugoslavia at odds by applying the old principle of state power “Divide and rule”. This principle was used by the ancient Romans when they conquered wild tribes in Europe, inciting hostility between tribes.

Urgh, Ms Amanpour, where is this "undergound" art community in Ukraine. The whole country is not under siege. Art and music in Kyiv or L'viv or Odesa is wioe out in the open. We have no snipers in the heights shooting at the zookeeper trying to keep the lions alive (one of my favourite BiH memories). There's a huge difference in the cause, scope, and conduct of the war between these two wars... And while this might seem nitpicking to anyone not intimately involved in either event, the whole of Ukraine is not like Avdiivka or Bakhmut. Most people go about their lives supporting the economy and the war effort from a distance. If it was the Russian army besieging Sarajevo, it would have been flattened within six months and 50,000 Russian soldiers would have died in meat-wave assaults. The Serbs (surprising as it might be for some) actually but a value on Serbian lives. Russians, not so much for other Russians; albeit more than how they value human lives in general.

This entire project is such BS. I am not referring to the U2 involvement. The footage the producers of this documentary attain is just another capitalistic form of using those stories for their own profits. If this documentary was made to open some eyes of the people, this should've been on PBS or Over-the-Air type of broadcast stations, not in the subscription-based streaming services.
