2015 was a difficult year for me, with the loss of several loved ones and family members. This third single from “M/F” is by far the saddest song on the new album and it undeniably captures the spirit of those beautiful family members who passed away, but it's most specifically a tribute to my childhood friend/ex boyfriend who tragically and unexpectedly died during the same year. It hit me hard, for several reasons, and I wanted to take all my feelings of sadness and grief and turn them into a positive, uplifting 'power anthem' (with some political commentary and anger thrown in for good measure, of course!) I'm so proud of this song. I hope you love it like I do. It will always be deeply personal to me but now, finally, I can hand it over to you, to whom it now belongs. And so, with no big frills or fanfares, I give you: "SOLDIERS" 💔🥀 M x

Listening to this today crying my heart out thinking of one of the few men I ever loved, Chris. The last thing he ever said to me was a text message saying "he's coming." That was February 2014. We weren't together but I loved him so much. He was talking about his boyfriend. To this day I hope his boyfriend just took him away (he was being hunted by a gang led by an abusive ex at the time) but in my heart I feel he was killed, and that drills a hole in my heart soul-wide. I hope wherever he is he knows now how I felt about him. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you Chris. I'll always love you.
