To be transported back in time is what this song does to me each and every time I hear it, my dad and I doing exactly what Matt is singing about, and we as a family would all sing this song together when dad played the record on our little record player!...... Dad's gone, but the wonderful memories are always there!

I have the 45, its one of my most cherished posessions. I didnt buy it I have no idea who did, I inherited it ftom some probably long dead relative, I grew up in an era dominated by Queen, Bee Gees, David Bowie and disco, Matt Flinders was a moderately successful cover artist for a very brief time who is still alive nearly 90 years, still listening and enjoying it in 2024

My dad had this 45 in the early 70s and used to listen to this song when he would drag us over to the Oregon coast to go on two or three day benders with one of his best friends that lived in Tillamook Oregon. They were both lifetime friends, lifelong alcoholics, and this song is sort of a theme of that dysfunctional time, but it is strangely poignant

I felt in love with this song straight away when I landed in Australia more than 50 years ago. Butterfly was another one that brings back some fond memories. Matt's voice was impeccable, rich in tone and smooth in delivery. Different era produces different types of singing techniques and I am afraid nowadays the new breeds don't seem to impress me much.

Catando as pedrinhas e atirando elas no mar, Catando as pedrinhas e atirando elas no mar, Catando as pedrinhas e atirando elas .....no mar !!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX... Look at the kids on the sandy shore, Watching the tide come in, I used to do the same sweet things, What pleasures it did bring ! Picking up pebbles and throwing them into the sea, Watching the white surf carry them all back to me, But now it's all over I've grown up it don't seem the same, The things in my childhood I know are all just a game ! To sit in my bed and watch the stars, High up in the sky, To say my prayers and off to sleep, And then to wave them goodbye! Wouldn't it be nice if clocks could be turn back the years, Just to relive the good times and all of the tears, Oh, God it brings joy to see them in looking so gay, How I wish I could go back to my childhood days ! Look at the kids on the sandy shore, Watching the tide come in, I used to do the same sweet things, What pleasures it did bring! Picking up pebbles and throwing them into the sea, Watching the white surf carry them all back to me, But now it's all over I've grown up it don't seem the same, The things in my childhood I know are all just a game !
