I always loved his tom sound. I listened to some Remo tom head shootouts and decided on the Coated Vintage Emporers. I love the warm, quick, punchy, yet soft sound from them. Turns out he plays them too. Everything makes sense now!

Matt’s my favorite drummer by far. I’ve always loved his approach to everything about drums, but I still don’t understand why he uses coated heads on his toms and the felt side of his bass drum beater. Sure, his kit sounds dry and warm by itself, but I always felt like In the context of most AAL songs (especially live) his kit as a whole would sound better if he used clear heads, harder bass drum beaters, and brighter cymbals (in some cases). That’s just my opinion, but I want to hear from other people as well. Let’s start a conversation about it.

I was thinking the same thing as well. I think since he hits so hard, the warm and muffled sound turns into more of a beefy/fat sound which he likes.

Simone Forlivesi Silverstar is semi-professional, and has a triple-flanged hoops + not so illustrous finishes. This is a Starclassic. Basically, just as good as Pearl Master Premium or PLegend.
