When Springbok rugby was really struggling during the early 2000's, I truly believed that we only needed Matt Giteau at 10 to be on par with the rest of the world again. What a fantastic player he was!

I went to boarding school in South Africa and our rugby coach lived down the hall from us. Every damn day he was there, making sure you did not fk up in anyway whatsoever. No matter that it's 30 years later and that I'm 10 thousand miles away in a different country, when I hear a deep guttural Afrikaner voice, i still get tense.

I totally understand why Eddie Jones would like Matt Giteau. The guy was just brilliant. Massive playmaker, versatile, potent with ball in hand, for me is probably the best utility back we have ever see and first centre too. I cannot think of any first centre that can beat hi. To my first XV

And I think Eddie was testing him, which is a sign he rated him and wanted to push him harder. With the drinking thing, I don’t think it mattered if Gitau had a drink or not, Eddie just wanted to see how he reacted to it.

He’s a bit of a contradiction Our Eddie , likes to call the shots, it seems to me this his how he tries to control people , ie slightly destabilising them . He also likes to try and put journalists in their place , often comes across as arrogant and supercilious, he’s quite a small fella , who believes he’s super cerebral ….. it’s an interesting way of navigating people .When England are struggling , ( ok we did win a series in Oz ),But we are not Ireland : it can raise a hackle with the common or garden rugby supporter , Rugby isn’t a mind game thing , it’s primal and that’s why we love it 😍

Sounds more like psychological abuse 😂
@berbababy4 жыл бұрын
You should run this story past a behaviourist. This is classic coercive abuse and not pleasant to be a part of. One person compared it to being kept hostage: "The victim becomes captive in an unreal world created by the abuser, entrapped in a world of confusion, contradiction and fear." Eddie Jones may have been a great coach, but this type of mental bullying is awful and designed to control the victim to the point where this player even today sees him as such an authority, he checks his behaviour when he's in the room. Awful to listen too, made worse by the fact that he doesn't even realise it's happening.
@berbababy4 жыл бұрын
@995sean What's your experience with psychology? From your trite response, I'm guessing you're young and haven't looked into this form of bullying in any degree or depth. Take some time to, you may be surprised and hopefully learn something.

If grown adults in positions of power treat young players (he was only 19!) like this, it's no wonder they go off the rails and have identity issues. This is flat out mental abuse and is a totally shit way to try and get the "best" out of your players.
