my name is Dan hughes.. my tbi story is 2007 had 4 strokes...my life got hard did not know why.. no dr.s said you just has brain injury from blood clots that got the forehead where your executive function and personality .. then 10 yrs years later I got meningitis fought for my life and survived got headache but went away...then one month later I got hit from behind by a truck ...my dog Molly got her ribsibs cracked from hitting the dash... two weeks I got rear ended again this time crash test dummy hard.. undiagnosed for years finally got to the tbi program...they said they stroke victims.. they get victims with brain injuries from swelling and high Temps for over weeks .the damage is like drowned victims..then they have actual tbi injuries from tbi victims... but never had all 3 injuries in one brain so close together. and told me that know tbi's and have a range scale..your injuries put you in severe end of the scale.. and I down play it ( old dan) because I don't have a pole sticking out my head or in coma for mounts I used to hunt tried few times.. the efforts are so hard to do it..I was trying to get a trophy after years of trying and not getting one.. but to keep trying it might happen and keep trying...some day maybe

I grew up idolizing Matt. As a kid, I wanted him to beat up my dad because my dad loved to practice wrestling with me when I went to sleep, I was never a good wrestler so he was able to pin me on my stomach and practice knee strikes on my tailbone. I hated losing so much.

Hughes was my hero. He was an animal in the ring. Combat sports was an outlet for me when I got out of the military .. loved watching it. Hughes was a stud at wrestling. I watched his hunting show and love hunting as well. I am happy you guys are doing this stuff for vets and warriors in other combat situations .. thank you guys for doing this. It's great!

God Bless you Matt. As someone that was at the top of his game back in 2004 as a 25 yr old man & a firefighter,. I got run over on the highway in Chicago on my motorcycle & now my left leg is bad & left arm / hand & shoulder is completely paralyzed. I FEEL you PAIN because for us Athletes we MISS the grind the workouts & the competition so much. I know it'll never be the same but hopefully we can inspire others to start their sports journey & strive for greatness

The first ufc fight I remember seeing was Hughes vs Newton. I was an instant fan. I met him a while back and and talked to him a bit and he couldn't have been nicer. He smiled a lot and let me steer the conversation and answered every question I asked, throwing in details I'd never thought of. He is salt of the earth. Never meet your heroes because they'll disappoint you... he didn't disappoint even slightly.

Matt Hughes is my MMA fighter. As a matter of fact I watched the comeback fight against Frank Trigg and the fight against Matt Serra. What a great man. I met Matt at several MMA shows & this guy is the real deal. Always took time to talk and he cared about you. Starting the UFC in 1993 when Brazilian Jiu Jitsu woke up world to add a great art to you martial arts training. Having trained for 35 years and belting in 3 disciplines. I can tell you Wrestlers & Boxers are the most physical athletes on the planet. Matt Hughes took wrestling to the next level. and his skills showed how tough he was. Matt Hughes is a great american and will always have my respect and best wishes.

We were only talking about Matts fights with Tony Trigg last week in the gym here in the UK and what an awesome fighter has was in the UFC. I didn’t know about Matt’s accident till today.
