Unions are all that a worker has to protect herself and her family. Not everyone can work three jobs, make ten and save twenty, take a bath in the kids' bathwater, etc. A union is not only the porkchoppers at the top but what members make of it. In this video, from Pentonville in 1972 I believe, the union leaders were forced into mass action by the willingness of workers across the countro fight for five shop stewards arrested for comtempt of court.

Is this in Scots or English?

The line between the two are blurry sometimes. Seems like English with some scots-isms (like "wasnae.") The "tur-la-loo" at the beginning of the chorus is rhythmic jibberish.

The difference between a language and a dialect may be tricky, For me it's a different language, at least in this case. Of course, it's a kind of continuum, most people are able to speak "hard" Scots, "soft" Scots and Scottish English, depending of the situation. AFAIK Scots is sometimes subtitled in English TV 'cause many Englishmen don't understand it. Some Scots variants are close e.g. to the York dialects but I doubt a "hard" Scots can be easily understood in Southern England.

Don't ask what your union can do for you, ask what you can do for your union.
