A very underrated singer of his time Matt was as good if not better than anything Hollywood could offer . . . not bad for a guy who used to be a bus driver in the UK RIP Matt Munro.

The sad untimely passing of Matt Monro left a big void in the wonderful but now forgotten songs of yesteryear. He was one of the last of the great crooners and was sensational. He is unforgettable and sadly missed..

No, my friend, not wine. A champagne cognac or, maybe, an Islay whisky... He draws you in, makes you think he's not worth the effort when the tremble starts on the key change, then gets better than impressive, you say, 'Wow! This singing bus driver turned soldier really knows how to tell a story in song.' You realise, just as with strong spirits, that he knows his life and your's has been enhanced by his and then you cry... And amazingly feel better. How on Earth does that work? Regards.

As a 52 year old man, I inherited my love of Matt Monro's voice from my dad's LP's (and also from watching Born Free when I was a kid - he sang the theme tune). For about the last 7 years I have had the Best of Matt Monro CD in my car on continual loop. Cannot get enough of his understated brilliance.

This man is blessed with a talent few singers have. His sense of melody and range, when holding a note, is majestic. Very few can sing with this caliber of quality. What a shame the world "walked away, walked on" from this beautiful style of music that both enriches and soothes the soul.

I caught the train the other day and it was packed to the rafters, I was listening to Matt Monro through my head phones and became lost in the music. His voice was so rich and full of character just like the roast pork and beer that I had the night before. I failed to notice that I was farting right next to an elderly woman sitting beside me but to make matters worse whilst I was passing wind poos came out and dribbled from my seat to hers. This started a chain reaction of vomiting and the train had to be cancelled at the next stop but it was okay because I parked my purple car next to a brown one that was the same colour of the stain I left on the seat.

Different more modern genres certainly do as far as talent goes, but since each decade has their own culture and technology it's very hard to replicate. Look at the revival of 90s style rave music and how many nostalgia albums have come out atd it never quite sounds right even though it's the same talented producers from back in the day.

I just heard this for the first time last week on SiriusXM & was blown away. A man who can sing is a rare gem. I truly don't understand why they smoke. Not only does it ruin your health, but also your vocal gift. So sad.

That is hardly surprising because Sinatra made a point of putting over every single word clearly. Matt Monro did just that with such a high degree of clarity that it is hardly surprising that a very high number of diverse films in his time had him singing their theme songs.... imagine that voice with every word crystal clear floating round the auditorium as the opening credits rolled over the big screen. There was never so good a match.

A voice like silk, pure & smooth, such a joy to listen to & in my mind I am still the beautiful successful Ballroom Dancer I was in the 1960's, moving with grace & elegance . Songs such as this made it so very easy to be just that. Now I am in my 70's & my body is breaking down bit by bit. Thank you Mr Monro for the beautiful memories that keep me happy through the on-going pain, you are truly a blessing.. Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)

I was eight years old when I met Matt monroe with my father .He was going into a public house across from the recording studio he had been recording in . My father was to shy to ask for his autograph and suggested I do it for him , I was just too shy as well . Anyway my father decided rather than lose the autograph he asked for it . Matt monroe was a real gentleman if I can remember correctly . I hadn’t a clue who he was . My father died in a hospital waiting room that night of a heart attack and I was bereft . I have loved Matt monroe ever since and his voice is unequivocally the finest Britain has ever had .. Every time I see him he reminds me of Reg Varney from on the busses ..? 😂 I am 56 now and still have goosebumps when I hear Matt . David
