@@SaffyTheDoll yeah it also doesn’t help that he had 5 offensive coordinator (only one that was actually good), had little to no weapons outside of an old ass Steve Smith after 2012, had multiple bad injuries, and constantly had one of the worst O-lines in football. As someone who watched every game of his (I’m a ravens fan btw) I saw that he had elite potential. He literally had the best postseason for a QB in history in 2012 but just seemed like he always found some way to dial it back at the wrong time either if it was his fault or not. But I’ll never forget what he did for the team in the 11 years he was here.

Joe Flacco is what Phil Simms was to the 80s. He was an average QB relative to his era that put up decent but not amazing counting stats. They also had an unbelievable playoff run which included a SB MVP. Simms in 1986 and Flacco in 2012. But those playoff runs were pretty much huge outliers in their careers.

To the people saying that Matt Ryan shouldn't get in because of 28-3 and 33-0, by that logic Warren Moon should never have gotten in since he and the Houston Oilers held the original biggest choke in 35-3 (and keep in mind that that was against a Bills team that had its backup Qb (Frank Reich) in the game). Choke jobs aren't enough to keep players out of the hof.

He’s not as talented or great as dan Marino or drew Brees, but Matt Ryan is easily in the top tier of the new “franchise quarterback” meta. He’s stayed with a team with little defense and only one offensive lineman worth a damn his whole career and he’s done his best with it. Honestly? In the vein of someone like, say, Dan Fouts, Ryan may very well be a Hall of Famer. He's definitely the best quarterback the Falcons have ever had and that's even accounting for easier passing yard totals. Maybe a step above Matthew Stafford, who is also underappreciated to some degree.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the 2014 season finale against Carolina. Believe it or not, that game was actually to decide the NFC South. Yes, the 2014 6-10 Falcons weren't eliminated until Week 17. And Matt Ryan wasn't very good in that game, but the whole team was bad, and that pretty much got Mike Smith fired, leading to Dan Quinn.

@Dhikshith Gajulapalli You can't have garbage time stats yet always have a lead to blow. There's no such thing as garbage stats when you're ahead. Look at all the close losses he had. Everyone is forgetting what that term meant. If the score is 38-7 and the team with 7 scores a TD with less than 4 minutes in the game, THAT'S garbage time. Losing 31-27 when the score was tied at 24 late in the game isn't the same thing 🤦

I'm a Niners fan, but traditionally when viewing the Belichick - Brady Patriots, you could rely on them having a very balanced team. Getting a free ride against the balanced Pats teams was not going to happen often. You'd have to work against Belichick's defenses and sooner or later, you'll mess up and Brady will make you pay with the extra given opportunity. With Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, they pretty much never had the luxury Brady had of consistently decent defenses and a coach that knew how to turn the screws against some high powered offenses like the Rams a few years back. I know I'm going off topic more, but I'm actually disappointed Belichick and Brady had the "divorce" they had. They completed each other well and gave a lot of opportunities for the Pats to win a lot.

I analyzed Matt in my book along with all the Hall of Famers whose careers started after 1947 and several of the recent stars who are on their way to the hall. Ryan is a lock!! If he retired today his body of work would place him as the 15th greatest quarterback of all time close behind Sonny Jurgensen and with a pretty good lead over Brett Farve who is currently 15th. For those who think I am nuts placing Ryan ahead of Farve please analyze Ryan's defenses and check out Brett's interceptions and get back to me. My method includes 16 different categories and the key to this being the right way to compare quarterbacks of different eras is that you don't compare the statistics themselves. You calculate how much better or in some cases worse the quarterbacks were than the average quarterback of their day and then compare those percentages. No stone is left unturned with some of the categories being strength of schedule, time of possession and even fumbles and it all concludes with a longevity multiplier. The book is written it just needs to go to press and everyone will know who the real top quarterbacks of all time are and find out who is the real GOAT. Spoiler alert Tom is not in the top 5.
