Matt Selt welcomed Stephen Hendry to Essex for a few frames. They discussed how much money a top 32 player really makes, how he feels the game can be improved for the pros and how Ronnie O'Sullivan convinced him to sell his snooker table.

Couldnt agree more, i have been watching snooker my entire life and I know absolutely nothing about all my favourite players ! This series has shown me more in a 20 minute episode than I've learned in 20 years of seeing them on the tables and in "interviews". Selt comes across wonderfully here too imo

The reason for the number 16 (and 32, and so on) is because of bracket-building. As long as matches are 1-on-1, every tournament has to be built on binary-based brackets (at least in some form). The Top 16 are the players you'd generally expect (based on results) to get to the last-16 of any given tournament.
@juchetony1910

unless you do a round robin stage, which they used to in the 1980s. I would quite like to see (for example) 10 groups of 5, top two going through from each group, then 4 groups of 5, top 2 going through, then a QF, at the worlds. Then the qualifiers all get at least 4 matches instead of one.
@kw91
@kw91 Жыл бұрын
@@juchetony1910 round robin with 130 players ends up, more or less, looking like a champions league kinda format. For it to be more fairly done, it would take weeks. I think that's a bad idea to go for every tournament.

this channel just really highlights what an embarrassingly bad job the tv channels and WST have done of marketing the sport and the players. people fall in love with characters and thats what inspires them to follow someone's career. the lifeless, godawful interviews we get on tv make every single player come across terribly. hopefully they learn some lessons from what stephen's doing here - there are some great characters in the sport, we need to know about them!
