I was cageside at this fight shooting photos for a media outlet, and I remember the moment Matt tagged Georges and staggered him. None of us who followed the sport expected Matt to throw hands like that, much less connect like that against the champ. I was stationed on the side of the cage next to Matt’s team and the moment Georges tapped, I clearly remember pulling my camera down and looking at over at Matt’s cornermen who were looking left and right in clear disbelief, locked eyes with me and we all were mouthing “holy $#;+” to each other. It was an amazing moment and likely the greatest underdog winning moment I’ve ever been a part of! Matt is truly a class act, as is Georges, and at that moment I remember being so incredibly happy for him! I have a lot of great memories from shooting UFC events, but the two where I remember being the most happy for the victor are this fight and UFC68, when Randy Couture came back to the UFC and beat down Tim Sylvia for the heavyweight title.

@@dandybrian True, Matt was much slower in the rematch. He was deceptively quick on his feet which threw Georges off in the first fight.

Matt was one of my favorite fighters, I was stoked when he beat GSP. Everyone thought he got lucky striking, hearing now that he was training and planning to strike vs GSP makes a lot of sense.

Good to see you doing well, Matt. I am a former student of Lou Neglia. I enjoyed watching you fight at the Vanderbilt. In Long Island. On your way to the top to the UFC. Good luck in all your future endeavors.

I like Matt and the fact he says George was so on point that night that there was no stopping him 👍🏻💪 GSP did make him look absolutely amateur though in the second fight almost as bad a beating as a guy can take but Matt took it well good luck in life bro you deserve all the credit in the world 💪🇨🇦

One of the best speakers from ufc. Matt is a great storyteller and surprisingly articulate. A lot of these guys aren't exactly the greatest orators lol. He's the kind of guy you love running into at the store and chatting with.
