If I would have read this book a few years ago I would have said impossible not in this country, the country I love so much which has at the cornerstone of society Justice. But after dealing with the Justice Department and different law enforcement departments for the last few years, I say sadly that this book puts a shining light on major problems with our law enforcement and Justice System that we need to deal with. I myself experienced the over-criminalization of our society and how it affects us. As a result of the system I am now a Felon. I think 100% of the people who know me and have worked with me think that would be impossible but due to the number of laws as well as the over reaching of the government I am. the law is the best thing going, the problem is how its practiced unequally and unfairly to shield corporations and punish the poor. MT is saying that law and justice [equity, fairness, what is "right"] are supposed to apply to rich and poor alike; he attempts to show how it does not in practice and he wants readers to join the fight, discuss and address the disparities and hopefully break up the big corporations and banks and reform the justice system.

The reason asking those in the middle of our financial industry to tell you something about something and getting a blank response is because as it turns out they only know what they do inside the system and are trained or chosen not to know, think or do anything beyond... I found this out on my own when running my small nyc based business and asking my analyst or number cruncher clients their take and finding them painfully lacking in any insight. As it turned out many were responsible, as mortgage guys or derivative guys but they honestly still didn’t see themselves as responsible or new that they had a role. It was corruption or integrity it was they honestly lacked a very necessary skill set required that of lateral thinking....

The problem was that in 2008 it wasn't as much a bailout as it was robbery. The banks were very likely to be bailed out since you know they held the entire global economy as hostage. When pretty much every persons pay-check relies on these banks to remain in existence no one can afford to let them go bankrupt even though they should.

I too believe it is a class problem. Because of our racist country color is what keeps so many people in the lower class. Every aspect of America has become predatory. It applies to Ukraine, also, where, for example, cops may stop you for speeding, but the problem can be immediately resolved with cash. I personally knew a foreigner (not from the US) in Ukraine who literally nearly killed a Ukrainian only because he felt he was insulted. The problem disappeared and immediately resolved with a contribution of equivalent to $5000 to the local court.

Because they are soulless lowlife scum with no morals that get off on hurting others and their children. If there is a hell it's waiting for them. I don't blame people for sending some of them there a little faster. Maybe if it happened more often they'd think twice before they intentionally ruined people's lives that haven't hurt anyone. These heartless punks don't only destroy people's lives but they are stealing from all of us because we are the ones paying to keep these harmless people in prison. Many people don't understand how prison changes people and it's never for the good. I've known good people that wouldn't harm anyone go to prison over something stupid like drugs and come back as stone cold killers. And I'm not exaggerating. I've witnessed it several times over the years. What started off as a simple drug offense that should've resulted in treatment instead of prison in the end did so much moral and mental damage to offenders they end up snapping and killing people. The legal system is set up for failures and to intentionally create more criminals. This way they have free slave labor, make millions in legal fees and them and their buddies all have jobs that make their weak cowardly selves feel powerful. They could care less about all the innocent people they hurt and the lives that are lost as they steal from hardworking people to finance their evilness.

Even though I am commenting here six years later, Matt's fine and worthy chat comes across as current events with the highest officials of the current scandal-ridden administration leaving jail long before completing their sentences. The Academy Award documentary film 'Inside Job' lays bare the wickedness of the 2007-8 era where none of the odious US bankers went to jail. At the same time, in fact, in Iceland the country declared bankruptcy for following the US's bankers' criminal ways. But Iceland took a very different course. It passed a law that half of the legislators had to be women. Then it jailed all of its top-level bankers responsible for their current catastrophe and, within a short time, Iceland was able to resolve its bankruptcy issue and eventually prosper. It leads one to ask if the Icelanders know something we choose not to acknowledge regarding the key role of women in society, including government. Check out Matt's revealing book and the film "Inside Job", as well.

Why, in the 'Lands of The Free' is there no Law Firm who challenges these wrongful arrests with monetary punishments to said proecutions ? They should be held accountable, either judicically if not monetarily ! It should be punitive.

a "Presidential Handbook" needs to be published for whomever may find themselves living in Our House as of 2020. These unspoken rules of "Let's be nice" "Maintain your manners" "have a little class" have proven to fail since 2016.

I rather liked the approach taken by the Quinn character to senior bankers in drama 'Homeland'. When a bank director refused to reveal how his bank laundered money for terrorists, Quinn followed him to a party, jumped into his taxi and told him: come back tomorrow and answer our questions or next time we meet I won't be so nice and friendly.

I think the point with 'production, distribution and buying/selling 'contraband' is mainly the golden rule ' you have the gold, you make the rules' But more to the point. Talking the sward of sword of damocles to the many headed many headed hydra. Is a quixotic tautology, signifying nothing, in this age of cell networking and multy El Chapo

some of these loans were only risky because the banks were extracting very high interest that was more than double the principle, which were hard for people to pay under bipartisan austerity programs

Just finished watching this now. If the main JOB of Government is to protect the rights of it's citizens, all lawyers should be public servants. Then the corporation would get the same kind of lawyer the civil sector would, for free. When money is taken out of the equation, maybe then we'll get real justice.

I understand the process of giving out Risky loans. Will anyone explain how through the process of giving someone a loan, these institutions made so much money and crashed the economy by people defaulting?
@peterhooper2643
@peterhooper2643 2 жыл бұрын
The loans are traded like stocks, and like stocks you can trade futures on them, usually betting that they will go up. And because they're AAA rated you can 'leverage', which means you can use $10 to buy $100 worth these futures. If the value of the mortgage loans drops by 10% because some people default then you lose your entire $10.
