A number of players stepped up to earn a pair of hard-fought victories, but Matt Wallner's go-ahead three-run homer in the nightcap was definitely the signature moment. And this might be Louie’s last window to prove himself in the rotation. Maybe he doesn’t put it all together, but it’s worth another shot. And once a guy goes to the pen, it’s not so easy to stretch them back out. It’s pretty amazing the bullpen has been good without Stewart and Topa, thanks in large part to Sands. He has been a savior, similar to what SWR has been for the rotation.

The whole team has been fun to watch this year, from willie playing as well as he has, to wallner and larnach bouncing back. It sucks there has been so many injuries, but the silver lining is they have alot of depth.

Joe Ryan has a rotator cuff injury. He won’t need surgery and will be fine, but likely effectively done for 2024

You’re thinking of teres minor. Teres major is a smaller muscle that does essentially what the latissimus dorsi does. Timeline to return means he is probably done for the year.

The T. major duplicates the actions of Latissimus Dorsi by adducting (bring closer to you), extending, and internally rotating the humerus. It's also active when pulling the arm down and back from an overhead position. It’s why rehab/Physical Therapy can help mild strains, you make the complementary muscle stronger to compensate.

Imma disagree with you on everyone’s better in the bullpen. Some sure but not everyone gets more velo. I’d guess festa wouldn’t much do to his mechanics. Also varland has had way more chances than a festa. I agree he should get some opportunity but it’ll happen fast with zebby and others coming up, on top of Jax potentially starting (driveline guys, Apple broadcast, rates and barrels have all mentioned it)

Festa would regularly hit 98 mph a couple years ago, he’s dialed things back a bit. I think he’d definitely be flirting with triple digits as a reliever. But I never suggested Festa should go to the pen or that Varland deserves more chances than him. Unfortunately, there’s plenty of room in the rotation for both of them right now.

Tom, I wish you'd talked more about the balk. It seems it was on the catcher who moved out of his stance which caused our batter, Miranda, to flinch. I've never personally seen that before. I slowed the video down to 1/4 speed and the pitcher did not move a muscle. Thoughts? Anyone?

He swayed, but since there was so much else to cover and that run didn’t impact the outcome of the game I didn’t feel like discussing it much. The wrinkle I thought was interesting was Miranda stepping out to fake like he was getting out of the way for Vázquez to slide in. That got a reaction from the catcher and I think created that balk.

On second view, it was actually the Cleveland catcher who moved first, prompting that step out by Miranda. It all happened so fast.

I think Varland is going to get more opportunities to show he belongs first, but Zebby will definitely be in the conversation should another spot open.

Second-best rotation in baseball last year and all the sudden lots of people expect the No. 5 starter should pitch like an All-Star. Most teams don’t have it that good, even most playoff teams.
