The actual output from a mass spec is given in atomic mass units (AMU). You get a graph with AMU along the x-axis with a series of vertical lines at various AMU representing the abundance of that particular mass. The analysis of a mass spectrum can be quite complicated depending on what you are analyzing. Complex organic molecules yield complex spectra. Upon ionization, the molecules break down into fragments, the mass spec yields the abundance of the masses of each of those fragments. Those masses, their relative abundances, and knowledge of how molecules break apart are used to determine the structure of the original molecule. Okay, for the sake of honesty, we would use one or more of the following in conjunction with the mass spec, IR spectra, visible spectra, UV spectra, and NMR . But, the mass spec yields important information on the masses and abundance of the various fragments. Wayne Adams B.S Chemistry (ACS Certified) M.S. Physics R&D Chemist 9 yrs. I've never studied, but physics is a great interest. Thank you for sharing this. I have some difficulty seeing EM as one force. Our galaxy has a magnetic field, like it has gravitational field, but not an electric field? An electron has negative electric charge and a magnetic field, but there's no particle with a monopole? They don't seem similar at extreme scales.

Why are the plexiglass text and diagrams oriented the normal way but the title of the 'Caddyshack' VHS is flipped right-to-left? If the video had been altered to make sense for the camera (online viewers), wouldn't that mean it would be reversed for the student audience? Unless they are seated behind the professor?

I have a question about the B field outside a solonoid. If there is a B field around a current through a straight wire why isn't there a B field at the outside when this wire gets wrapped around some coil. I would have thought the outside path has a value of -BL?
@yoprofmatt
@yoprofmatt 4 жыл бұрын

@@yoprofmatt Thanks, now it fits in my mind that B lines are continuous having beginning nor end and are only squeezed inside the coil as on the outside they have the whole universe to expand.

At 20, why is there no B field outside the solenoid? It should have a magnitude because magnetic lines are in a continuous loop.
@yoprofmatt
@yoprofmatt 4 жыл бұрын

@@yoprofmatt Teaching middle schoolers for Sci Olympiad, I told them that for a wire conductor, the field strength around it B = u * I / (2*pi*R). So, closer R is to the wire, greater the value of B. Does this not apply to a solenoid due to geometry?
