Only a true professional accepts that where work is done, mistakes are made. Respect that you dare to be vulnerable and do not edit out mistakes but show them and take full responsibility for them. I wish you and your men good luck and prosperity in the completion of this great project.

Just subbed to you, recently me and my wife were talking about buying a house in the future in Georgia currently residing in NYC. So as usual, I get super excited and start thinking about layouts and how to remodel, blah blah blah. So here I am and found your channel on how to frame a wall. So here is my thing, i've always loved remodeling things from scratch, love tools but don't own much, and this type of work ALWAYS gets me excited, sometimes I feel I am in the wrong jobs, is this something that is easy to obtain as a skill worker since living in NYC I find it hard to find a place to do this type of work. Any help would be nice from all people. Thanks and keep up the nice work!

I remember when I was cutting my teeth on stairs. I messed up and framed the entire staircase wrong. I thought I was going to get fired. My boss told me "if you never cut a staircase incorrectly, you never framed a set of stairs". Now I am solely cutting roofs and check my measurements on paper, calculator, and roof framing books.

Regarding building "exactly what they draw on the plans", there has to be some degree of freedom, yes? For example, you block your walls a certain way, and another framing contractor might block them another way, and both would be perfectly fine, I'm guessing? I assume that the trick is to fully understand the difference between the things that must adhere to the plans, and those that are not critical.

What other issues can arise if some decides to just increase the height of the wall by adding more wood instead of rebuilding it. Just wanting a deeper understanding. Thanks.
@madhatter2012
@madhatter2012 4 жыл бұрын
The most serious issue I can think of is that adding another short wall on top creates a "hinge" joint where they meet, and the loads from the roof trusses can push the seam in or out. It's the most unstable type of joint I can think of and can be dangerous if enough load is applied from above. To get an idea of how this looks, hold the tips of your fingers from one hand straight up, and then take the fingertips from the other hand and place them vertically on top of the others. Now push hard. The point where they touch will kick out one way or another.

It doesn’t snow, freeze, stay hot for weeks, etc. They mostly build in Zone 3 so they can cover code with just a simple fiberglass batt in their wall bays. I've never gotten hurt in my jobs and knowing that I've done 4 years of bricklaying apprentice that it was not going to happen. I figured that he didnt want me because I'm a female. It's interesting how pretty much nothing I see in this video, except possibly the framing for the interior walls, would be legal here in Denmark, including your working methods. Standing on ladders is not legal here for example. The framing for the exterior walls would be far from sufficient. Using OSB on an outside horizontal deck would last possibly 3 months and it would be ruined. What little I've seen of the plumbing would be illegal not to mention how you guys do electrical. But then again - this isn't California.
