It is always with real pleasure that I follow your videos and your work very well done. And that's good, since I always wanted to know if these wooden constructions could withstand an earthquake or a hurricane, and today I had the answer, so Thanks Matt.

considering the amount of framing in that building and the additional cost of the "strong walls " it begins to approach the cost of CLT walls . Clt has massive shear built into it and the same hold downs could be used as in stick framing . plumbing and electrical can be installed using the German holz haus method by using a chase at the base of the walls or under a built up floor with sleepers used to accommodate wood flooring or whatever . Clt also has a better fire rating than stick framing and a huge amount of money is saved on labor thus offsetting the increased cost of the panels .

Awesome Video Matt and Crew! - I love this content and the way you explain everything - House designs and construction has always been a passion of mine since my teens - Very impressed with your Knowledge and skills Matt - My actual home Construction skills and experience are minimal - I remodeled my own home inside and out - 2 Room additions - roof - windows - electrical - hardy siding - all interior work - ETC. Just remodeled Kitchen and 1 bathroom as well - and also complete front and backyard landscaping - DIY - Saved us roughly $90K - $100K - Ah yes the Simpson Strong-ties - had to add to my remodel on a few existing walls - Those Strong walls are very cool! - Nice Set up! and I love hitting golf balls! Keep posting video! Thanks Matt

Haha I wish i owned a machine, I always have to rent and always end up with something different. Ive never ran a genie that wasnt jumpy i know exactly what you mean. Its tolerable on a little machine but i ran a 10k 54’ and that thing was almost impossible to run precisely out at longer stick lengths. I put a few hundred hours on a brand new skyjack this year and really liked it. I got used to the single control after a while, skyjacks run really smooth though compared to the genies. Personally im a fan of the jcb layout for long/ heavy/ precise picks and a skyjack or jlg single stick for general organizing material and unloading trucks at ground level. Now the trick is to justify renting 2 separate machines hahaha.

So I'm a 38year old carpenter I live in Maine I've been around framing from a young age I framed and finished houses for about 20 years but I stopped about 5 years ago to help my buddy build a rv sales and service company but one of our customers talked him into building them a house with a sob story that the earliest any one would even look at his plans was a year out so I start on it on Tuesday with old painter as my help he's a joke of all trades serious I've been watching your videos trying to sharpen up my skills thank you can I ask why y'all run your wall sheathing vertical instead of horizontal

You took your trimmer load path out, I know your trimmer is nailed to that post and probably fine, and you didn’t have room in between hold down bolts, up in oregon we run a continuous trimmer down from the header and then just a cripple under the sill so are sills are cut net instead of +3”

2 things about your lift there should be a proportioning valve that can be adjusted for your lever controls and there should be a seat belt that should be used by the operator at all times

Simpson strong walls....thats pretty sweet, but sad that they are even a requirement. I look at the layout and think damn man...it not like Cali has hurricane code requirements like here in NC SC... Side note lmao...was oddly looking forward to a legit handelbar mustache with the sanchez hat 😂🤘🔥

Hey Matt! Great videos young man! Keep it coming... I've always used the Portal Frame method which is much cheaper. My engineer and local jurisdictions have always accepted them as code compliant. I'm guessing your engineer specified the Strong Walls?

I have a question sir , the still strong wall and wooden strong wall are for same purpose? Perhaps if required a still strong wall but the the height doesn’t work can we get a wooden instead?

@@MattBangsWood That splains it. Americans tend to swing any stick like a bat ... it's in our psyche. Once you break that muscle memory you'll be fine. Suggest you video yourself in slomo, then try to pick it apart and eliminate everything that isn't a proper golf swing. What's left is a proper golf swing 🙂

Simpson must be shilling for the insurance companies and the insurance companies are lobbying the building departments to build in a manner that protects them from ever having to pay in the even of a natural disaster . those "strong walls " dont seem all that applicable in earthquake prone california , but would be a good addition to hurricane zones . California rarely sees earthquakes strong enough to topple buildings so some of the hold downs that are being used are a bit overkill . statistically there are waay more devastating hurricanes each year than super destructive earthquakes , hence my opening remark .
