no offense but there's pretty much no perfect way to implement NIL. This chaos was bound to happen no matter how nil is implemented. I mean I believe there was a reason why NIL has never been a thing for a while now; because the people knew it was going to ruin the sport. Do I support players getting paid? Yes but I also know that NIL would ruin the sport. I personally dont mind the current state of nil its not my concern. There is also no way to regulate NIL either. You cant put a salary cap because the NCAA really cant do much about it either. You have different organizations involved and there is too many legalities to deal with. You got the nil collective which is different from the university, then you got the university themselves then you got the different conferences who all have different rules too then you got the ncaa which really doesn't do anything, they are just the figurehead.

NCAA sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring reality has made this whole situation a mess. If they had not been so resistant to evolution, they could have stayed in control and made a framework for how this should happen. So many obvious guidelines they could've put in place. Put a cap on the coaches' salaries and limit when/how they can leave schools. Then use that same model to justify why restrictions will also be placed on NIL and the transfer portal for the players.

Contracts are now essential for protecting both players and schools. Even a one-year contract can safeguard the player's interests, while also ensuring that the school retains its investment in the player. Similar to NFL contracts, which benefit both players and teams, a college contract could allow schools to buy out a player's agreement if a better offer arises. This structure mirrors the existing framework for college coaches and provides stability for all parties involved.

NIL shouldn’t exist in the first place. No argument can justify it. They are already basically being paid to play. Most of them are getting a college education for FREE. Not all, but most. The ones who aren’t typically don’t play right away and maybe earn a scholarship later. But this had nothing but trouble written all over it when it was implemented. It is the main reason the greatest college coach in the game retired. I workk in a hospital. The stipulations of my employment were laid out in the hiring packet. I knew what my responsibilities were and what my compensation was going to be. Difference is I had to get my college education to get the credentials necessary to qualify for my position. I wasn't told by my employer, "we will pay you to get your education, and pay you to do a job on top of that." If kids want to be "paid" let them jump right from HS to the pros. College is where they take talent and mold football players. Its where kids go to become men. In the meantime they are gifted a free education, free room and board, food, etc. All they need to do is play ball. If they are good enough they will be considered for pro ball, but at minimum they will have a high priced education many can't afford, and a bright future in whatever career path they choose. The minute they are paid to play they are no longer amateurs, now in the adult world, and responsible for their own education, room and board, health insurance, etc etc. I know most may not agree with me, but I'm actually supportive of athletes getting paid, but I don't want to hear about them getting or expecting scholarships on top of getting paid by NIL deals. Nah. You take the cash, you pay your own way; or go to the pros as an 18 year old and get smashed. And if some schools can afford to pay for top talent and others can't, well, we already have the Yankees and Dodgers vs the Tampa and Royals. College ball will be condensed into the haves and have nots. We've already seen a bit of that with the SEC getting the lions share of recruits.
