Another great video you have so much energy and obviously enjoy making content. Bought my first pair of Brooks - Ghost 14 - late last year. I went to a specialist shop that has been around for years. They said it was a good idea to go for one size up from you normal shoe size. I tried 5 or 6 pairs and the Brooks were my choice. Fit, they have been perfect. I am an 8.5, my Brooks are 9.5.

I’m the same way! I tried going for my shoe size (9) and they always fell asleep never understood why. Then for ASICS size 9.5 which worked well. I switched over to Nike and I find I’m a 10 (they seem to run smaller). THEN 😂😂 I got a pair of Saucony in 10 and they just felt too close to my toes. I got a 10.5 and it’s perfect. It’s been an adventure

I am a woman who wears U.S. size 8.5 B width in good quality dress shoes. My last two pairs of Asics Nimbus were 9.5. I had not purchased a new pair in a very long time, but I wanted to get out and be more active again, so I ordered the Gel Nimbus 24 in 9.5 regular. I could barely get my feet into them. I then tried a 10 Wide and a 10.5 Wide. I was stunned that even the 10 Wide felt too short. I ended up with a 10.5 Wide. I could not believe I had to size up two whole size from my dress shoe size. Historically, Asics run narrow and short, but this is ridiculous! If someone told me in advance that I would need a massive 10.5 Wide, I would never have believed it. They make my feet look huge, but my feet do not feel constricted, and I have a thumb's width between the tip of my big toe and the tip end of the shoe, so the 10.5 Wide must be the correct fit. "Shocked" does not even begin to describe how I feel.....
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Жыл бұрын
As you well know from buying clothing (not just shoes), sizing varies hugely between brands and that difference is even bigger between different items (dress shoes to athletic shoes). Your size of 10.5 wide means nothing other than you weren't used to hearing it. I'm so glad you found a pair that fit comfortably, as that's the one thing that will keep you using them! What are you doing to be active again? Walking, runing, etc.? Good luck on the journey and I hope you're loving the shoes! The GN24 sure are comfy!

@@its_Matt_B_ I used to walk between 3 and 5 miles per day about 5 days a week at a very nice park not too far from my home, but I more or less stopped all exercise about 7 years ago after my little girl passed. I hardly went out at all, and then Covid hit in 2020, and that was one more reason to stay indoors. Any time I did go to the park with my dog to walk, it was a zoo. Suddenly, because of Covid, people were coming out of the woodwork so to speak to spend time at what used to be a pretty quiet park, so that was one more reason to stay home. I planned to start walking more beginning last Autumn after the terrible heat and humidity of Summer had passed, but before I could follow through on that commitment to myself, I was forced to move from my 2/1 house with garage (owner turned it into an Airbnb) to a one room apartment. Now, I have no choice but to take my dog for at least 3 walks per day since we no longer have a yard, so I had to buy a new pair of shoes. Walking on concrete in my old Nimbus 10's were killing me as they are totally clapped out. I always liked Nimbus because of the great cushioning. I have worn Asics since the 1980s. This is the first time I had to settle for a pair two whole sizes larger than my high quality dress shoes, though. There is something vaguely insulting about that! (LOL) Traditionally, Asics run narrow and a bit short, but this is ridiculous! The 24 in 10.5 Wide look huge on my feet! I read the new 25's will not come out before late March for some reason. Each year they usually come out in January. Maybe there was still a glut of 24's on the market they hoped to shift? Anyway, I did not want to wait that long. Plus, I knew I would end up spending at least $40 more for the 25's. So, I decided to buy the 24's.

@@user-lz6dm5lk9y I’m so sorry about you losing your daughter and totally understand staying in. I’m sure life just lost its joy for such a long time! I would say your move to a one room apartment has a silver lining; your forced dog walks are going to get you in super shape! 💪🏽 I understand it seeming insulting to go up in shoe size, but take comfort that no one but you will give your shoe size a second thought! 🤣 (at least I hope it’s comforting!) I think you made a good call getting the 24 instead of waiting for the 25. There’s no point spending more when you don’t have to! Keep up your activity level! 🙌🏽

I went into a running store recently and I was so overwhelmed with all the options and trying to figure out the perfect fit. I ended up going with a pair of hoka bondi 8’s in a 10.5 wide. I normally wear a 10 (non wide) but they fit felt better with the bigger size especially cause your feet swell. I will say, I’m still not used to my feet moving around a little in them. I haven’t gotten any blisters yet though so hopefully they aren’t too big. I’m just rambling at this point but yeah! I guess I’m just experiencing the “growing pains” of entering a new hobby

Hi Matt great video! At 1:43 you are saying to leave between 1/2 and 1'' between longest toe and end of shoe. Wouldn't that make for a loose fit? 0.5 inch is one size bigger in US size while 1 inch is 2-2.5 sizes bigger in US size. Looking forward to your response!
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 2 жыл бұрын
The idea behind having your running shoes slightly longer than your longest toe is to give your feet room to move slightly in the shoe. I don't know if you've ever worn shoes where your toes touch the end, but it can lead to trauma from the repetitive movement of your toes against the front of the shoe. Think black toenails and blisters. Also, our feet can expand slightly when running. The extra room allows this without discomfort. As far as sizing goes, yes, it may very well mean buying a larger shoe. There's nothing wrong with getting a bigger shoe, especially if it leads to comfort while running, which is what we all want! I've found different brands size differently, so it's best to try a new shoe first before committing to keeping it.

I don't have any experience interacting with elite runners or their personal shoe fit, so I can't really say. As 99.9% of runners are hobby joggers and podiatrists and "shoe-fit-experts" agree about shoes having a little room being the ideal, I tend to side with the majority. However I recognize the fallacy in thinking the majority are correct just because there's more of them. With that said, you're right to go with a snugger fit if that's what works best for you! 🤷🏻‍♂ It's funny you say your wife is trying to hide her big feet with smaller shoes. Just looking at the numbers, I'd think the 32cm might be a bit too small, but there are other factors to consider that won't be known until you try them on. Good luck! Please check back in and LMK what size works for you! 👊🏼

@@its_Matt_B_ Thanks for the advice Matt! I did actually get to try the size 15 shoes and it was a little uncomfortable while walking and running, my big toe kept touching the tip. Unfortunately size 16 was not available for now it will take about 2 weeks for them to come in stock. Looks like US 16 it is then!

Hi Matt, thank you for your content! I am a Walker and noticed after several hours of walking in my new shoes, NB freshfoam 860v13 that only my 2nd toes on both feet were in pain and a bit red and loose nails but strange because my 2nd toes are a lot shorter than my big toes. So not sure what was happening because my big toes as well as all the others are fine. What are your thoughts?
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 2 ай бұрын
Hi Kathy! This is a curious problem, especially because your second toes are shorter. I think a podiatrist will be your best bet to get a legitimate reason for your second toes hurting. However, it's always fun to speculate. I wonder if you may be better off with a shoe designed for walking (they usually have a flatter sole and are slightly firmer)? Your 880s have Fresh Foam, which is lovely and soft, and I wonder if because of that softness your toes are working too much. Sorry I can't give you a precise reason, but I'd love to hear what it is when you find out for sure. All the best!

What if you normally buy a size 10 for a comfortable fit, would there be much of a difference if I get a 10.5?
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Жыл бұрын
Perhaps not, but it's always best to try first, especially if you're getting a different brand. You may find that a 10.5 is even more comfortable and fits better!

Hi Matt, I am looking to buy running shoe, i usualy by UK size 7 this time I wan to check i proper size and buy.. My exact size comes to 24cm suggest me if I can buy 26cm (UK7) or 25cm (UK6) few brands don't have UK6.5 size confused 🤔
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Жыл бұрын
This is tricky because there’s more to shoe fitting than just the length: the width of a shoe and the volume play a roll too. I suggest trying the shoe you want on first or buying online from a place that lets you return the pair that don’t fit.

I always have weird sizing with Adidas. My foot is 27cm heel to toe. On Nike, currently Pegasus 38, 10.5 US always fits me perfect. On Adidas though, wearing size 10.5 US (10 UK), while the shoe fits, it feels a bit tight on the inside. And when i tried Adidas 11 US (10.5 UK) it seems a bit bigger, i dom’t feel any tightness, bit it’ll feel there’s a little more space at the toe room tham i wanr. Currently got an RC3 Adizero sisze 10.5 US, feels a bit tight when i wear them, bit during the run it’ll feel better, but foot would sometimes feel hot

It's really a pain that all shoes aren't sized the same! How much toe space is more than you want in your Adidas? Remember our feet need room when we're running and they often expand a little on longer and/or warmer runs! More room is (generally) better than less room.

@@its_Matt_B_ 1 cm of space would be fine. Nike’s always snug fit on me. Adidas shoes, i find them narrower. I might try 10.5 UK again though.

Looking at a new pair currently. Ive narrowed my choice to the asics cumulus and nimbus. I’ve had the cumulus before but not the nimbus. Am I likely to get a lot less life out of the nimbus due to the foam?

This is my review of the Gel Nimbus 24 after 120 miles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKqkiZyjn8-WedE It’s possible you may get less life out of the Nimbus. I’ve currently got 287 miles in my Nimbus and they still feel great, but the rubber on the forefoot is show quite a bit of wear.

Just bought a replacement pair of Asics GT2000 10's and am completely torn between size 10.5 or 11. The differences seem so marginal... no hill slippage etc, but the 11's do seem to have more gathering of martial on top of the toe box - Is that a sign of them being too big?? 11's have full thumbs width gap...10.5 just a touch less. My older GT 2000's were 10.5 and bought from a proper shop, but seem smaller then the new version. (unfortunately, I can't test run as the return's policy won't allow).

Yes, the gathering of material at the top can be a indication the shoes are a little too big, at least in the volume of the shoe. It sounds like the 10.5 will work better for you. 👊🏽
