It’s definitely possible, even without the Rubicon. Completed it in a stock Willys during a hurricane (Laura). Out of the box rigs are capable, but any rig is only as good as its driver.
@backwoodstherapy
@backwoodstherapy Жыл бұрын
Willys has the advantage of 32" mud tires. I'd say a Sport could do it too, even with the Dana 35 and non-limited slip axle, but it would need a good set of AT tires (KO2s, Open Country AT3s, Ridge grapplers, etc).

Love the "Father/Son" trip. I've been to Hurricane Creek several times. Btw, a "Rubicon" JK is not "stock". Just sayin. As always, Keep on Jeepin...

Agreed. Calling a Rubicom a stock jeep isba good headline but one of the most capable offroad vehicles made.

Nice video, I drive past the trail all the time, but never make time to go do it. The shorter wheel base of the cj/yj/ and tj's means a lot of things you scrape on with a 4 door a 2 door will clear. I believe most people turning around has more to do with the driver and less about the vehicle. My only advice would be not to pulse through an obstacle. A little momentum with a steady foot will retain traction where stopping and going will result in lost of traction and lateral movement of the vehicle downhill. Always glad to see someone taking their kids outside.

Thanks! Yeah a smaller 2 door would probably crush most of this trail pretty easy. Hope you get to hit the trail soon!

I love any video that shows what a stock jeep can do!! since I don’t plan on putting 35s on my Rubicon. I did, however, put a winch on. Best decision I’ve done yet. Thank you for sharing that video really good!! hope you have many more like it!!

A stock Rubi will do this trail no problems with front locker. I did it in my stock 18 Tacoma Off Road 4x4 with no issues. Used my rear locker on the same spot you did and had no problem getting up & over. I had my son get out of the truck on the pucker factor rock. Lol. That drop off is no joke to look at.

@SimplyMustGo
@SimplyMustGo 2 жыл бұрын
Cause I've put the trailer through a lot and I know it can handle some crazy stuff. Also, because I didn't really have a choice. It's a 2 day trip for me and that's the only camping setup I have. I also know from experience that, with another vehicle there, I can get recovered out of most situations or have the bigger more built vehicle pull the trailer through a tougher obstacle, it's why the gladiator had a hitch mounted to it, just in case we had to make a switch.

I found this trail on the onx app was the very first trail I did with my new Bronco, but it does have the sasquatch package. My brother went along with his '20 f150 that had a lift and mud tires. It was over the summer during the rainy season when we went visiting from FL and I have to say the most nervous was going through that part next to the rock and tree roots that want to push you over the steep hill down to the creek! My brothers setup was a bit wider so I tied a strap from his truck to my bronco just to have some leverage in case it wanted to start slipping since his tires were inches from the edge. I have to say that the bronco breezed right through this trail and would have made it faster through but had to keep at my bros pace. Other than that, great trail!

I did this trail 12/29/21 on my first gen 01 Mercedes ML320, this model come with a robust off road system that act like lockers, it has a low gear, on 32" A/T tires. The trail has a few technical rocky sections, the tree ruts section is a little challenging but the traction ontrol of my vehicle was able to get through on the first try with no issues, lifting two wheels on some rocky sections sections, this trai so much fun

Can you explain what you mean when you say lockers I heard you say a few times i had to use my lockers I use to own a 1973 CJ with locking hubs I just bought a 1995 stock YJ they don't have manual locking hubs So im lost to what you mean Iby saying HAD TO USE MY LOCKERS Thanks and nice video
@SimplyMustGo
@SimplyMustGo 8 ай бұрын
Lockers refers to a way of locking your differentials and or locking your transfer case. Basically meaning that when you apply lockers, either via electronic lockers, air lockers, manual lockers or something like a lunchbox locker, you connecting the front (or rear, or both) axels so that all the wheels spin together and the same rate. Without lockers engaged you could have one tire spinning and another tire not spinning at all (in the case of open differentials like on a YJ). Lockers basically make your front tires spin together at the same rate no matter what. Same with rear lockers. This is ideal for harder obstacles where traction is critical but would be awful on the street. So vehicle don’t come with their differentials locked, they wouldn’t drive well on the road, but off road where their is less traction they are often the difference between getting through a spot or getting stuck.

Looks fun, how long did it take? I would love to run it some time. I agree, a stock Rubicon with lockers should get you through most of the obstables from what you put on the video. 35's appear like they would help too. I may have to wait until another time. We'll be headed from Jacksonville, FL to western Virginia and I'm not sure I can stick it in during the middle of the road trip. I think as Kelly mentions below, the most key issue is driver knowledge and skill and the right amount of caution. And while many trails can be done without lockers, it's still nice to have them when you need them.

@SimplyMustGo
@SimplyMustGo 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think so, but there are going to be some places that are tighter and more over grown. So your chances of getting some scratches are probably higher. Also just keep in mind it will be harder to pass other vehicles if you encounter any going through the other way.

Neat stuff. I'm guessing our "Hard Rock Rubi" will be just fine. :) Thanks for sharing. Cheers and God Bless. ~M&E~ P.S. We went to Francis Marion last weekend and had a really weird experience with someone that claimed he was stuck and out of gas for two days in the swamp. He was only a mile from the end of the trail. Not sure what was going on so we gave him some water and exited stage left.

@@SimplyMustGo true, its not big enough to pass except in a few spots. but this is still a public road until it gets closed to the public. there is definitely no sign, law, or rule that says this is a "one way road". Unfortunately in the Nantahala national forest there are no "jeep trails" or "off-roading trails" it is ether a forest service road or illegal for motorized vehicles :( The gates at the beginning and end or the road are new, so they *might* be planning to close this permanently or seasonally (like the rest of the "unessential roads" in the Nantahala national forest) now that this is getting to be popularized and over used :(

@@SimplyMustGo one of my springs was broken and I went to a junkyard to pickup two springs. After traveling nearly 40 miles to get them he only had the front springs after telling me he had the rear. So we searched the junkyard and the only springs we could find came out of a jeep liberty. They were 1” longer but much heavier springs, and not wanting to wait for springs I went ahead and decided to give them a try. He gave me a great price and I got them to use until I could buy new. The seemed to work great and I’m having no issues, no noise or vibrations I just kept them. And the jeep looks level, but you can see about an 1 1/2 difference. Anyone that’s been on that trail knows you need extra clearance for a couple obstacles. I’m disabled and I live on a budget, so I have to make do.

My biggest issue the approach angle, but don't mind scraping the front bumper as their is already some trail damage to it. Do you think I would be able to make with this truck? I hate to say this but I don't consider a Rubicon stock. If I took my Jk Sport S added a shock package , even a minor suspension upgrade, front and rear lockers and a sway bar disconnect even if I had to go out and remove the links it wouldn't be considered stock. You might have a factory Rubicon package but it's an upgrade from stock. But that's me.

Yeah. I’ve come to agree with you. That I should have been more specific about a stock rubicon vs a stock Jeep. At the time it didn’t really occur to me. My thought was more about not using the lockers or sway bar disconnect, but there are other differences that still give the Rubicon some advantage. I actually saw that Liberty video. It was really fun to watch.

You really should use low range more often and not be afraid to use your lockers. They are there for a couple of reasons - 1. to help get your vehicle over an obstacle without tearing up the vehicle and it's drivetrain and 2. to help protect the land/terrain from further damage caused by erosion and other vehicles spinning their tires all the time. Let me know if you ever come out to the southwest US and I will be glad to show you around our trails.
