I've been through, in and all around the Lake Jocassee/Jocasse Gorges area both on land through the access roads and trails and via lake access. It's beautiful and mystical and magical and very ancient. One of the most beautiful places on earth, in my humble opinion. The waterfalls that empty directly into the lake are especially gorgeous. Used to be very remote and isolated but has been discovered by many in the last few decades. We are so lucky and fortunate to have it here in our "backyard" in upstate SC. "Take nothing but pictures and memories and leave nothing but footprints".

Pronunciation for Jocassee is: Joe - Kass - See
@GetOverItOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you! We've had a lot of comments on this pronunciation. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing it and may have failed. In the beginning of the video, I pronounce it a few times as you have helped with Joe-Cass-see, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, Joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?

@@GetOverItOutdoors across the Lake on the west end is another area you might want to check out some time. It’s called Muster ground mountain. It’s a hunting area that offers dispersed camping. Lake access is harder to get to due to gates but you can walk the last section and there are less views but it’s very secluded and some fun wheeling. Definitely steeper than the horse pasture area. You will need 4WD due to elevation. It goes back in maybe 15 or 16 miles to the back. There is also a route that you can use to connect to Gorges State park when they have the gates open at the bridge that crosses the River. I have not been down it but hear that it’s only open on occasion.

Unfortunately I don’t have a link for the routes. The road that leads to the waters of Lake Jocassee was Bootleg Rd. and it is off of Horsepasture Rd. All is found in the in the Jocassee Gorges WMA. In the Linville area all the video was along Old Hwy 105. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Bootleg road, gee I wonder how it got that name :) I had a friend of a friend who ran a dive op there. Off the Wall I think. There are some diveable structures that are not at technical depths.

is it possible to get the gpx file for this route?

Hey, Unfortunately I don’t have any GPX files here. I basically entered the Jocassee Gorges WMA off of Hwy 11 at Roy Jones Rd.. Roy Jones Rd. to Shooting Tree Ridge Rd. to Cane Creek Rd. to Horse Pasture Rd. toBootleg Rd. Bootleg ends at the Lake spot you saw in the video. There are a bunch of other ways to get there but that was our route. We just took pavement to Linville, then just basically spent all our time on Old 105/ Kistler Memorial Hwy. Hope this helps. I’ve been to many falls in the area. Some of the best are not well known and a gps won’t take you to them. The valleys are too deep for the gps connection. You need good directions and need to pay attention as there are no signs to some of them.
@GetOverItOutdoors4 ай бұрын
That is awesome. It’s nice to find places that cannot even be found on a map. Are they legal trails on the MVUM?
@akbychoice4 ай бұрын
@@GetOverItOutdoors yes, once you get to the trails there are signs, just nothing out on the roads to get you close. Since GPS won’t work you need written directions or a great memory.

@@GetOverItOutdoors good morning! Jo Cassie is correct, but the inflection is in the middle of the word so, jo Cass ee.
