I have been waiting years to replace my 27" intel iMac. I am sure the engineers, marketing and bean counters would argue that it isn't needed as it doesn't offer anything that the customer couldn't already achieve. However, Steve.J would have understood the apple customers and instinctively known that this is a gap in their product line worth closing.

I totally agree. I feel I was forced to get a Mac Studio instead but if a 27 or 32 inch iMac came about with apple chips inside, I would change straight away.

I have a 2015" 27" i7 iMac that needs replacing very soon. If the price was right, a 27" M4 Pro iMac would be cool but the price would have to be right because I now realize having an all in one really sucks when it comes time to upgrade. If the price was similar, a mini/studio with a separate display would be better for upgrading down the road.

@@MattTalkTech Me too. Just dropped on a base mini with 24Gb memory upgrade to give it a bit of headroom. I think my iMac days are done, particularly as Apple have killed the option of using old ones as backup har drive and screen. So dumb. And controlling. See also the continuing eye-watering gouging on RAM and storage. I’m just going external now. The mini is amazing value but only if you keep it low spec. They're going to lose so much money from me and my kids over the next few years, which is a real shame. If they did a good value 27-32 inch iMac and stopped being silly with the upgrade prices I’d happily drop a few grand on them. But after 30+ years of Mac happiness I just can’t afford what I need anymore without going outside their ecosystem, particularly for storage and screens. Ho hum.

@@77drisyou can get a Mac mini and a 5k iMac display driver board. The 1811R driver board works really great for that… Now you can use you Mac mini with your iMac 5k screen, a screen that is similar to a overpriced studio display🤷🏻‍♂️

A 32” iMac with 5K resolution at 120 hz refresh would be too expensive. Apple should just give us back the 27” iMac with 5K resolution and 120 hz refresh. It would be more affordable and awesome.

I’m using, since new, a 2017 27” iMac 4.2 GHz quad-core i7 2 TB Fusion Drive with 32 GB RAM and Ventura. No complaints until about the first of this year. The poor Fusion Drive was really feeling its age and running slowly. Actually, that has been the case for three years or so. I finally wanted to do something about this less than satisfactory performance. My solution was to use an external 4 TB SSD with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 compatibility as the replacement for the internal Fusion Drive. I installed macOS Ventura on the external SSD, made it the boot drive and migrated everything from the internal Fusion Drive. Everything works as expected, including iCloud and Time Machine, and of course much faster. If Apple does release an M4 iMac Pro 27” or 32” I’d consider buying one, but it will be a long hard thought process. I’ve considered the M4 Mac Mini with a Studio Display, but it’s pretty pricy, so I’ll keep waiting to see what Apple does with the iMac.

Hopefully Apple give more attention to protect the SSD from failing the power circuit for it. Often the Chips gets destroing overvoltage to the SSD when the switch regulator cracks.

I had a Mac mini then got the m1 iMac because I was tired of troubleshooting monitor compatibility issues. Now I’m back to a Mac mini setup (m4 pro) because the last iMac announcement was such a huge let down and it convinced me a future pro/max/ultra iMac configuration isn’t happening. Ugh I’m dreading getting the $tudio display but I hate hate HATE hunting for compatible monitors so much I might actually buy it.

I just got my new orange M4 iMac on Tuesday, to replace my mid-2017-build 21.5" Retina 4K iMac...so the specs for the iMac Pro would have to be really compelling for me to upgrade so soon...that said, I do want to get the new iPhone SE when it comes out, to replace an iPhone 7 that is my backup phone. I'm keeping my iPhone 13 mini as my primary phone...and will get the battery replaced most likely in the spring...really wish Apple would offer a "mini" model for their phones...those of us with smaller hands really like it!

I’ve been waiting years to upgrade my 2019 27” Intel iMac - I purchased the Mac mini not realizing it wasn’t compatible to use with that model of the Mac - I wasn’t willing to give up the screen. So I returned the mini. Been waiting for at least a 27” iMac, though 32” would be amazing - for the wait it should be done. I would love if they transitioned the screen to touch screen 😎

You can convert the iMac to a screen by putting in a R1811 display driver board. Watch Luke Miami’s videos about this. Works great for most people, but might be a bit sad to throw away a 5 year old machine🙏

Apple already has a patent for 32 inch Imac also Apple recently won a patent for an advanced iMac that could project content onto nearby surfaces. The patent covers projectors on the rear wall or other parts of the device.

I'm using IMac27", 2009; 2020 by me. I bought IMac24" M3 in 2023. The screen is small and the white frames are disturbing, because AutoCad and other programs I work with have a black interface. I think that they should develop iMacs with a single screen, instead of producing obscure equipment.

As an owner of a 2017 iMac Pro (with an AMD eGPU,) the iMac has served me well. But since the Studio (and upgraded Mac Mini) is now available, I doubt I would ever buy another iMac. (Full disclosure- I have 3 external monitors I use with the iMac)

The thing though is that even with an M4 Extreme, the iMac Pro still can't beat out it's older variant in one factor. RAM. The iMac Pro 2017 can go up to 512GB of RAM, which is something that real professionals genuinely need. Honestly, Apple needs to work on finding a way to either cram more memory on package or have separate RAM chiplets next to the main SoC die. Thread count too. The old iMac Pro could reach 36 Threads. Without HT, that means we would need a 36 Core CPU. A 100% Maxed out iMac Pro can be bought on eBay for around $6500 with an 18 Core CPU, 512GB of RAM, 8TB of Storage, and a Vega 64X, add another $2000 on a Razer Core X Chroma and a 4090 running in Bootcamp. Even an M4 Ultra won't be able to get close to that. Big reason why so many are still on Intel iMacs. "Why would I need to spend $3500 on an M4 iMac when I could upgrade my 21.5" iMac with an i9-9900, 64GB of RAM, any GPU I want running in any OS I want, and even a SATA SSD to get as much storage as I want for less?"

If the Mac Studio starts at $2,000, I believe a 32 inch iMac Pro is going to start at at least $5K. A 120hz 32 inch MiniLED 6K display is not cheap at all to manufacture. I also think if they will need to feature the M4 Max or M4 Ultra. There's no need to have a M4 Pro chip at the price.
