I loved Legacy. It was a bit ahead of its time because the 80s resurgence didn’t quite happen until 2016. I was obsessed with how Disney “updated” the grid. The crisp LED lines of the suits, the Bladerunner inspired layout of the Grid’s city landscape, the expanded vehicles and terrains, the world building possibilities! Legacy made Tron more than just a movie inside a video game. It created a cyberpunk species unique to Disney. Not a comic book IP or Star Wars spinoff.

It baffles me that EPCOT didn’t receive the Light Cycle ride. Legacy could literally provide a new world to Epcot. Don’t get me wrong, Guardians of the Galaxy is cute. Fun for all ages. Doesn’t make sense that it got a whole roller coaster when Tron is tethered to Disney property AND is a realistic take of what humans would do if they got hold of the Grid. Even meeting characters or having a half sequel between the 3rd movie through a ride.

I like the soundtrack, I just was deeply disappointed with the second movies decisions though. (e.g. the decisions to have an arena audience for the games, and tons of other things in the same "not getting the point of the decisions in the first one" sense. It wasn't like that in Tron, JUST because they couldn't have it. It doesn't fit with the analogy of "the programs fighting" being a representation. Having an audience only breaks the analogy for "a rule of cool". Same for "why the original light cycle" works, and the "free axis" one doesn't. I really dislike Tron:L for tons of those "you didn't get what the point was" decisions. Spoils the ost for me too...

ive been planning this comment for a while. We need to bring this show back. Ending one of the most unique and high quality shows of the last decade on a cliff-hanger and then discontinuing it is so mind blowingly stupid to me. If you go to the tron uprising subreddit you can see fans waiting for some new uprising news for over a decade. With posts as early as last year asking if they should give up hope because of the lack of news or reports. But now is the time. With the reveal of the new lightcycle roller coaster and the news for the third tron movie being released, (as well as some new weird tron based puzzle game apparently coming out?) it seems as if disney is trying to slowly revive tron. I urge anyone brave enough to go on all forms of social media to create an uproar. Show that there are still thousands of people interested in this series. Create accounts, fan pages, edits, posts literally just saying "Bring Back Tron" (especially uprising). There are 3 possible outcomes from this, either 1) Disney hears this and trys to respond in some way, which is a big +. 2) disney is already working on new tron projects and they will see this and possibly tease something as a form of responding. or finally 3) disney does nothing and at least we tried. Please, anyone who is able to do this, I beg of you, show that tron hasn't died yet.

Something interesting about Tron: Legacy was how Kosinski made camera moves that you can't really get in real life. I mean, you can get them, but they were deliberately mathematical and it's odd to see a camera stop on a dime. Or a crane that turns upside down. It's a stylistic choice that I think worked well for the movie. If you see Oblivion or Top Gun, he stuck to normal physics for camera movement.

For those who know the history of computers (ref: IBM), there was a command that allowed you to trace how a program progressed as it was being executed - Trace On, abbreviated as the command TRON (and yes, there was a Trace Off - TROFF). So, TRON was the program that was tracing how the Master Control Program was running with an eye of finding a way the program could be interrupted.

Thank you thank you so much for making this video. I am now 54 years old I was 14 the year Tron was released. I can tell you I walked out of that movie theater and my head was spinning. As someone who is a massive Star Trek fan and loved Star Wars. I was hoping Tron might have the same future as those franchises. I kept thinking any year now will get a new Tron movie not. An In 2010 as 42-year-old grandfather we finally got a new Tron movie. Once again my mind was blown, I love the effects the acting. I know the deaging they used on Jeff Bridges doesn't look great, but it was in its infancy at that time. I am thrilled that you said they've announced a 3rd movie because I know I am not the only one out there that love Tron. I've been a lot of conventions and you will always spot a few Tron cosplayers. Anyway, thank you so much for this video

Tron was experimental and Tron Legacy is the pinnacle of the aesthetics.

great video. I just watched the full making of Tron and feel this is a perfect condensed video of everything in the full documentary

This movie was so incredibly slept on. I’d love to see James Cameron get his hands on this IP along with bringing in some of the old production staff for advising.

Great video, totally agree tron is amazing. Also, great choice on using the midnight for some of the background music.

This is one of my most favorite movies. I don't have "the one best movie" like many of my friends but if I had to name a movie, Tron Legacy is always the first that comes to my mind.

I have a genuinely unsettling obsession with Tron Legacy (Tron as a whole but Legacy specifically). When I saw it as a kid it was a really cool action movie. As an adult, there are so many really compelling themes, the art direction is perfect, and not to mention the soundtrack. The whole series really never got the treatment it deserves. I'm happy that it was never dumbed down though, they always kept those intelligent themes in the background, even knowing the franchise wasn't pulling in new fans.

I've loved this film and it's universe since the first time I saw it so many years ago. Still to this day I cannot understand why it's so underrated. Almost all of the visuals hold up better than the shit Disney has put out in the last two years.

Loved this video. I discovered tron from Kingdom Hearts 2 so it was nice to see you mention it. Also I love your outro music!

This was so great to watch. I must have watched Tron Legacy twice in the theaters back in 2010. My then 6 year old nephew made me bring him with him both times. I was beyond heartbroken when the sequel was cancelled. I still don't know how I feel about Jared being in the driver's seat for this film. In fact, I'm very worried.

12:15 - 12:20 I saw all four in the movie theater way back in 1982. Hard to believe today (2023) that those movies were all considered flops back in 1982.

Commercial flops. The box office isn't always right. Tron, The Thing and Blade Runner are now all considered classics. Both artistically and in terms of influence.

I loved Legacy, an epic looking film that got me curious about Tron's origins. Though visually stunning, I can't attest to how much of the plot I truly understood as a teen, yet, I appreciated the revisiting and extension of a world beyond my time, worthy of a revisit from my present self. Releasing a third instalment back then would've been great for continuity, but, in light of recent murmurings, perhaps the time away will have allowed for a meticulously crafted, heavy-hitting expansion to the story and deepening of the lore. I can't wait!

A video about tron and tron legacy thank you so much matt ive never clicked on a video faster than that before and i didn't think there were many people who loved the world and idea of tron so it's amazing to see there are more of us out there now time to play a game of light cycles 😁

I saw this in the theater when I was 8 years old, and this movie blew me away. I had all the toys (the ziptie powered lightcycles were awesome). Loved the arcade games. I wish my kids liked it a much as I did, but I can see why they don't. it's definitely slow and dated by today's standards, but it's still got a solid place in my heart and head.

I'm glad tron 3 is moving forward, but I'm also sad because Daft Punk is no longer making music. My love for EDM and science fiction stems from this movie. I'm terrified to see them fuck it up but I'm also thrilled to see another movie. Hopefully, they can hire more edm producers to make the soundtrack if they can't get daft punk to come back one last time.
