LOVE this!! Question for you, if I were to do a decal on this tumbler... Would you spray paint, epoxy, decal, epoxy, add the leopard spots around it, then use the final sand? Just seems kind of tedious to get the spots in place around decal.

I'm not sure how to answer that because it would depend on the look you're going for. I probably wouldn't put spots around the decal.

@@FlynnSistersBoutique just used a cheap vinyl and I don’t think it was dry enough. The epoxy wasn’t sticky anymore but it hadn’t been too long. Lessons learned!

Love it. Just had a quick question. Tried one, a- lot of sticky residue. Tried rubbing alcohol, and that didnt help. Cup sat for about 3 weeks after epoxy was put on before adding decals. Used oracle 651. Any way to remove stickyness? Which vinyl do you recommend?

I just used oracal 651. 91% rubbing alcohol works for me to remove the residue. You can also try 631 or removable vinyl but it may not stand up to the sanding part if it's not 651 vinyl.

I was just using a paper towel. That was the final layer so it didn’t matter if some lint got on there. Between layers I use coffee filters

It’s permanently etching the surface so I’d say it’s pretty durable. There’s nothing staying on the surface

Have you tried spraying Clear coat Krylon on it? Then remove the vinyl, It will do the same thing cause Krylone is bad about dulling and never getting shiny again. Im just being friendly, I didn’t want to come off sounding like a know it all 😊 by the way I love every cup you have made, you are very good, even Reahel from MNG tells us on a KZbin of hers.

Thanks 😊 this is a permanent finish and not a surface spray so I think it would be a lot more durable. Clear coat spray paints aren’t fda compliant so I wouldn’t use them on the final outer surface of my cups. Thank you for the suggestion.

I love this look. Curious how to do the top rim. Do you sand the top before the second (final) coat of epoxy to create the seal?

Katlyn Greer I’m pretty sure she has a tutorial on it or it’s in one of her tutorials. She sands a thin line on the very top that way it is sealed on the side of the cup opposed to the actual rim or the top of the cup. It’s such a small amount that’s sanded that you can’t notice it unless you put your face right onto the cup, lol. At least that’s my experience lol. The rim is a very “high traffic” area with how many times we put on and take off the lid so you want the seal on the side of the cup.

You said you out permanent vinyl on for the decals, but how did you get them off? I've poked, scuffed, and nicked cups trying to take off vinyl. I can't imagine the challenge with permanent. Gorgeous cup! I have wondered how to create a matte finish, so this is perfect.

You have to use permanent vinyl for this because the matte process is so abrasive. It's not actually permanent on the cup. You can get it off without scratching the surface, you just need to do so carefully. I use a dental pick tool and just gently lift the edge and lift the rest with my pliers. thanks for watching!
