This is gorgeous! I can’t wait to make. I’m new to this - preparing to epoxy my first tumbler. I have to order a respirator. I wanted to epoxy in my craft area which is my office/craft area. I want to be safe - my garage won’t be the cleanest place to epoxy. Should I epoxy in my craft area with a respirator while no one is home? While it’s curing how do I keep it safe? I have a double window right there that I will open. When I sand the epoxy coats, should I wear a respirator? Thanks for your help.
@FlynnSistersBoutique4 жыл бұрын
Yes you should use a respirator while mixing, applying, sanding and keep good ventilation
@shannonwithperfectlyluna11514 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Once you applied the epoxy, I noticed you take off your respirator. When I apply that first thin coat to glitter, how long should I wait before taking off the respirator to apply glitter? 5 minutes or so? Since I’ll be doing in my office, you think I should mix/apply while no one is home or say keep my kids in other room till after I apply it

I know theres a lot of diff opinions, but yours is the most important lol. People are saying 3 coats of epoxy before final sand. I know you did only one. Whats your thoughts?
@FlynnSistersBoutique4 жыл бұрын
I think you'll be fine with one as long as your epoxy nice and thick and it's fully hardened. Also, be careful around the rim with one coat. I thought you'd need a couple but i did find with one and that's against DIY Epoxy's Artisan Epoxy :-)

Hello, I just watched your video like 4 times hahaha I love your cup its gorgeous! Quick question, I've seen others use 000 or 0000 for the steel wool. I've also seen a hit or miss for the scratches, do you think it matters if it's a 00 or 000 or 0000?
@FlynnSistersBoutique4 жыл бұрын
i think what matters the most is the length of time spent sanding and the even distribution of pressure. so every surface was sanded equally and for enough time to fully scour the surface. if you rinse everything off and it's dry completely and it looks scratchy - then put more product on and keep going. i usually will rinse and dry about 3 times and keep checking until it looks right
@cedezk4 жыл бұрын
@@FlynnSistersBoutique Thank you because I tried 5 times on my wine tumbler and it was so scratched up. It was so sad. I tried to also use gloved hand method, and it worked ok. I just don't want my leopard prints to blend in too much. I wanted them to shine still. I have permanent cricut nude vinyl is that was you used in your first video. When you put the vinyl on without epoxy over it? Sorry for all the questions lol

Hey Jess, I’ve been trying to do this cup a couple of times it’s soo beautiful, and seem to mess up each time. 🙈🙈🤦🏼♀️ My question is though, I didn’t see on this tutorial if you also sanded the rim before last coat of epoxy, or is that only on glitter tumblers?

My tumbler keeps coming out wavy. Can you sand over it so smooth it out or will it ruin the holographic vinyl?

is the vinyl covered in a layer of epoxy? if so, you can sand over it a bit and then epoxy. you probably won't sand far enough to scratch the vinyl

I used final sand to prep my cup. Then sprayed it with Rust-Oleum satin spray paint. I wanted to epoxy before putting spots on, well my first layer of epoxy had fish eyes 😭. Do you know why this could be? I didn't touch the cup and I base painted with flat white.

@flynnsistersboutique also could we spray the vinyl after weeding or is there a reason you spray before?

spray before because it gets messy on the backing paper, and you probably got fish eyes from your paint which can happen if you didn't shake your paint well or if it hadn't fully dried.

This is beautiful! Definitely trying it soon! What do you think about weeding the vinyl before painting?

the paint won't dry nicely on the vinyl's paper backing and will be messy when you transfer it

Jess - you mentioned a maroon scrubber a few times in the video. Where did you get that?

you can get prep and final finish pads with this kit on DIY Epoxy's website here: diyepoxy.com/shop/final-sand-kit/?epoxy=142 or you can also find them on Amazon if you just need the pads - amzn.to/3kRg3Oo

great video! Can anyone answer a question I can't seem to find an answer for? I have a bunch of colored tumblers and stainless steel wine cups from previous projects I've not used and would like to epoxy. Can you sand those down without losing the color or just totally ruining them? Can you not just epoxy directly on the color?Thanks y'all!

hey there, is the color powder coated? Do you want to just add decals and epoxy over them? if you're adding glitter over that it doesn't matter too much if you damage that painted surface because you can just sand, paint over it and then apply your glitter. if you're planning to keep that painted surface than you don't want to sand it, and your epoxy layer runs the risk of not adhering properly.

@@FlynnSistersBoutique I believe some are powder coated (they are Rtic and walmart brands) but the wine tumblers are the colored stainless steel (?!) if that makes sense. I'll try it out and see what happens! Thanks so much for the quick response! I'm a newbie at resin tumblers so the questions are endless! :P
