That's a big old scope you've got. I love it. ❤ You could put a signal diode between pin 8 of the TEA1002 and the resistor to stop any back EMF. (typicaly composite video is 1.5V p-p.)

That pen (and the others I use) are getting a lot of attention at work and other places. I didn't think until the last few weeks that using one as an everyday pen was so unusual. Might have to make a video about them......

This got me thinking, and anyone feel free to correct me if this is nonsense. I don't know why TV makers, in the 80s, didn't make a mode whereby the TV frequency would lock on to the PC output frequency, to get them in sync, without all that arbitrary tuning nonsense.

The RF signals that come down the aerial have several 'carriers'. You have to 'tune' to the correct one. The TVs were analogue and not smart enough to know which channel to go to (even if there was only one to select). Later TV's had 'Video In' sockets that completely bypassed the RF, which also improved quality. As a side note TVs had AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) that did allow them to 'lock' to a channel, but only after you were reasonably close.....

@@MrZenitJ I didn't realise there were several carriers, I thought there was just one. That was silly of me. You've just reminded me of AFC. It seemed to work OK, if I remember correctly. When I got my amiga, I bypassed the modulator and made an RGB cable, as my philips had a din socket for it. Boy, was that a revelation.
